I hate to see death, but someone had to say it. I'm sick of all this talk about how the world hates our freedom.

The professor seems to have overlooked the fact that it was the UN that imposed the sanctions on Iraq, not the U.S.

Imagine if the terrorists had flown into the UN building instead. Or managed to kill 3,000 people in every single country that didn't oppose sanctions. I have to wonder if perhaps it would make someone like laurentius a little less sure of his position.

All of this of course graciously ignoring the small matter of the sanctions not being the cause of the attacks at all.

Like the US didn't have anything to do with it. How naive can you be?

They thought it was an accident like everyone else. Well everyone else except Bush.

Well, just slightly less than people who haven't realised this isn't about sanctions at all, just plain ordinary U.S.-bashing.

U.S. bashing is fun, but hopefully it also makes some people think. I guess it doesn't sometimes.

Agreed. As evidenced clearly in this thread.

To be fair, the ME was no happy, lala land before the US began to meddle. As with most foreign affairs, the US just picked up where Europe left off.

                      Combat teams?

                      1. If the US killed children in Iraq, it was an accident

                      2. If these "combat teams" were hitting a military target and accidentally hit the towers, your argument would hold water.

                      3. Your "combat teams" targeted civilians.

                      4. "Combat teams" fight for their survival and train for their survival.

                      5. "Combat teams" don't learn how to fly an airplane without learning how to land it.

                      6. If the "combat teams" hit Finland, I'm sure you would say it was okay. Since obviously Finland had to have done something.

                      7. People that commit suicide, like these "combat teams", don't do it for logical reasons.

                      ACK!

Hm, you could say they act within the logic of their belief system. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that their beliefs are crap

Anybody who states that the people in the WTC deserved it, should be beaten up to a pulp. I'm sorry, but this is the kind of crap I will not tolerate. I'll personally kick the crap out of people who spread such horrific crap. One of my friend's uncle died in WTC... he didn't ****ing deserve it. If I knew this *******, I would personally deal with him.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

                              All what laurentius said.

I am against this nasty habit of demonizing the enemy, be it even terrorists. It's a war going on after all, and those people are fighting it with the means that are immediately accessible to them. No doubt, they would love to meet your tank brigade in the field and crush it. But they can't. They just do what they can. The article is a step in the right direction, towards an unbiased analysis of what is really going on.

So you wouldn't worry if the US would nuke Mecca in retaliation? Those nukes can come in quite handy. Maybe they would prefer to get OBL in another way, but hey, it's a war going on after all , hm?
