They're not eating into MS' share, though, they're eating into Unix vendor's share.

I'm looking at CERT and I'm seeing more vulnerabilities for things the average entire Linux system than Windows (XWindows, KDE, etc). Am I missing something?

          Security

          1. Linux security is a myth, claims Microsoft.

          2. Microsoft security is a myth, claims everyone else...
          3. Maybe Linux has little of desktop market, but on server market (the one who really counts and is targeted by virus maker) it has the lead (or at least including BSD and other UNIX-like OS).

It would be interesting to see what the 2014 respective market shares are compared to 2005 shares were when these posters were making their claims.

I just want a minimalist OS optimized for gaming. No prepackaged bloatware. No stupid touchscreen interface. Just me and my games.

              2014 and still nothing.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I want a gaming OS... not an overpriced, slow PCdevice-that-wants-to-be-a-PC on complete lockdown

In hindsight, I wonder if Urban Ranger was a Linux fanboy because it was easier for his overlords to attack Linux servers

Commercial UNIX really died a fiery death, didn't it? Almost no one uses stuff like Solaris anymore. But Solaris is pretty awesome...
