What deems me strange ist that you had your McCarthy era, where everyone suspected of being communist or sympathizing with them was being persecuted,
but obviously never had a time where Neonazis in America encountered the same oppression.

Correct me if I´m wrong, but it seems to me, that even the members of the KKK seem to have been handled with kids gloves in comparison to Communists.

I don't know about the Germans, but during WW2 the US hasn't been too nice to its Japanese population. I think it's just a matter of whom is the enemy of the US, and communists were the enemy at the time.

Yes, you are wrong. The government declared the KKK a 'terrorist organization' in 1871 and utterly destroyed it. Of course, then the Klan Act was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but by that time the original Klan was a shadow of itself.

The Second Klan arose during the 1920s, but within 10 years started dwindling in popularity until it dissolved in 1944.

Any other re-births of the Klan were small and of little influence.

The Commies were treated badly, but I think the Klan of the 1870s may have been treated worse (and deserved it, btw).

Remember the Greensboro case? A group of klansmen were staging a demonstration in Greensboro, N.C. gunned down several blacks and got away with it. In fact if you look at the track record for punishing KKK murders it hasn't been very good.

At least there isn't a huge billboard with a Swastika... that sign is pretty harmless.

They should all be picking up trash alongside the road in their tasteful, matching orange coveralls.

Enforcement on the KKK has been lax because it mostly does its work inside the deep South, where blacks weren't given so much sympathy for being victims as if they shot a white man.

Hey in Germany today political parties are banned. And freedom of speech is restricted. The US of A is far more free then the banana republic of Germany. People have the right to their opinion, even though it may be totally despicable. As long as it doesn't cause violence, it is permitable. Whether or not these groups cause violence is another topic.

And nazis picking up garbage? Great. Does that mean they throw themselves in the dumpster too?
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

The state couldn't prevent a hate group from adopting a highway or other official charitable works even if it wanted to since the KKK sued decades ago and won the right. The solution is simple; just dump trash all over it and eventually the Nazis will get tired of picking it up and stop adopting the highway.

BTW I believe the American Nazi Party had its hey day in the 1930's and was tiny even then but it has continued to survive ever since. I'm not sure if it was outlawed in WW2 though.

I seem to recall seeing specials on a pre-war American Nazi party who's leadership actually went to Germany to meet with Adolf Hitler. I suppose the party was disbanded after the US joined the war.

This is a perfect target for "Reclaim the Streets", the ultra-leftist anarchist movement that arrange street parties wherever they like to start a riot.
