Indeed. The trouble with mental illnesses is you can't take a blood test and get it confirmed on paper with 100% accuracy that so and so and such and such illness. The result is that diagnoses and doses become educated guesswork that improve with time as the consultant can hone himself more accurately. Meantime you're a guinea pig.

When I was in nursing school doing my psyc. rotation, I spent time at the state hospital. Most of my subjects were in because they were un fit to stand trial or the likes of that and all of them were so drugged up that they just stared out into space. I dont think most were aware of who they were anymore.

I agree with Whaleboy, yet I have additional concerns surrounding the question:

Did these psychological conditions (including ADHD) always exist or did something change (or is changing) that is causing more of these cases to arise?

I will be willing to assume that these conditions didn't always exist, and that we are changing something. Maybe it is in what we eat; preservatives, prepared foods, etc... Or what we do. I don't know, but addressing the problem, such as these treatments, is only the start. We need to begin addressing the solution, and how can we?

I want to believe these situations have always existed. When I look back on my child hood my brother was very hyper but was looked on like he was just being a bad kid. My mother suffered from depression however considering she had 4 kids and a loser of a huband and worked her a** off to support the family I cant imgaine why she wasnt depressed. Im not sure there is a solution to mental illness. The mind is a very strong thing. Its like if you look in the mirror you may be very thin but if your mind believes your fat you will see fat.

This seems like the kind of thread I would have participated in. I wonder why I didn't.

I assume a spambot bumped the thread with an offer to BUY US PASSPORT NOW, which was promptly obliterated by Management. Dinner then saw the bumped thread and tacked on his two cents without noting the last post date. Which leaves us blaming him for a bot necro, when he's really only guilty of a half-assed post.

If he'd actually meant to necro this, he'd likely have been much more ostentatious about it ("I've never needed antidepressants because I LIVE IN SAN DIEGO").
