Its all over for me now, all in the past thankfully. Good luck to you guys. Im happy to elaborate more if any of you guys want to talk about it with someone who has survived and come out the other side, ready to live my life again.

Now Mrs Tuberski may have got the wrong impression of me with all the talking and such, normally I got months without saying anything [/QUOTE]
Snotty I feel like you do. I never took meds but i struggle with my teenager all the time. I should have probably just taken the drugs after the incident that happened, but i was afraid of not being in control. As far as any wrong ideas Dont sweat it. I make no judgments of people at all. I can argue alot but make no judgements.

I have a son that takes an anti depressant as well but it isnt for depression he takes it to counter act the concerta he takes for adhd. He was on adderal nothing like amphetimes to lighten the life. but he couldnt sleep, so the gave him the anti depressent i cant spell it but it is imperadol or something like that . Now he just sleep walks. What to do?
How old is your son? 1 in 10 kids sleep walk, it's rather normal.

A lot of my family is on anti-depressants. I find the whole SSRI fad a little distrubing, as well as the whole ADHD medication. I wonder how much it is over prescribed, and this comes from some one who works for the company that makes concerta. I would just think twice about taking any type of medication as they can lead to serious medical problems down the line. My lil sis has been on and off of anti-depresants for god knows what and she takes migrane medicine like it's candy... She has an ulcer, and probably will for life, and she doesn't even drink.

My son is 14 now. I have tried him with out the meds for adhd he is so out of focus it scares me. he failed the 7th grade because my ex husband said to take him off and see how he does. Back on he is getting better grades
and controls his impulses. He was on adderal but that was way to much of a stimulate. I must admit i have not a lot of knowledge of concerta hes only been on this for a few months

Concerta is meant to be taken at the same time everyday, the mornings I think. It attempts to control the amount of ritalin he receives in a day. I'm not sure as to when the "boosts" kick in, but there are several through out the day. I would follow the prescription to a tee, and give it a few more months. If things don't improve talk to your doctor, some ppl just react to drugs a different way...

To note, the drug operates by attempting to time the rate at which the coatings on the pill disolve (which is why you can't cut them in half). The pill disolves at a rate that is determined by bodies pH and other crap (I make 'em, I don't design 'em). If his body is slightly different based on diet, what have you, than others he could be disolving the tablet layers slower resulting in him being "up" at night, thus requiring the meds to help him sleep.

My wife's cousing switched from his old SSRI to the generic, and he swears it works much better. I have no idea why, it is the same active. It just happens that way sometimes.

they are both brand name methylphenidates

I just use ritalin, since most people know what that is

the only thing that is different between ritalin and concerta is the delivery system

Ok. Your right he takes on pill every morning the dose is 55 mg a day. The anit depressant was given cause he was a walking hell at night he couldnt sleep. The anti depressant is imprimiane i believe and hes a happy camper most of the time.

This too is a lot freaky, since i have ben in this thread i got that save ad crap popping up all over about anxiety and depression scripts

I have so many emotional problems, I fail to see how a single (or multiple) drug can fix them. This is why I have never sought treatment. That and the fact I don't have the money to do so.

Is there any place where I can get free mental help?

There are specific mood disorder forums, I'm a member of one... can be quite good for moral support and people to talk to etc.

I suppose you could therefore say I've taken anti-Ds, though not for depression. I was on Propranolol for about a little under a year due to migraines, which is the other use for them. I hated them, I didn't feel like me on them, I just felt like when I was having an attack, it was happening to this person I couldn't control. Plus the blood pressure effect, while helping with migraines, meant I couldn't sprint to the same level, and still can't. I lost the will to try or something, but either way, it stopped me running competatively.

if only the doctor had told me they were anti-Ds as well, rather than blood pressure/migraine tablets. It makes sense now, in that they'd reduce stress, but it was never worth it, IMHO.

I'm generally in favor of people taking what they need to feel normal, whatever that is, but I think they are too heavily prescribed to children. Working where I do with juveniles, probably 2/3 of my clients, are on some type of mood altering medication. When did being a kid become an illness? God knows I would have been put on meds if I was ten years younger.

But for adults, and older teens

I have never taken anything, but my uncle was on Prozac, which that and a combo of other things ate his liver, and he is quite insane right now.

You know I struggled with this same thing before I put my teen on concerta. But when he started striking his younger sibblings because they made him mad i had not much of a choice.

Mrs. Tbrs I am sure your child is needing of the meds. However, my lil sis was a 1st grade teacher, my wife taugt HS, my brother-in-law teaches special ed (yaaay!) in HS, and my father is on the School board, and I can say with all due honesty that a kid getting the right diagnosis for the situation is rare... I am certain that ADHD is over diagnosed
