My first reaction is that it was still a flashback, and Jack must have been feeling guilty on the island since he had wanted to crash. And that he knew Kate before the crash.

I think it is all confusing. Lost does a good job at awnsering questions while bringing up new ones. It has progression but no conclusion, which is fun. Unlike all these other shows whose season finally is some stupid cliffhanger that occurs every season, generally involving unrequited love.

I didn't catch it; I just read it elsewhere. Anyway, the name of the funeral parlor was Hoffs/Drawlar. Rearrange the letters and you get "flash forward"...

I doubt that's how Jack is really going to end up. If they leave the island right now, what are they going to do for 3 more seasons? I think tonight's episode showed us what would have happened had they left the island before they were meant to, but someone is going to prevent that from happening. My guess is that Desmond will be that person...

I that will be the case. But so far all of Desmond's future flashes have involved Charlie dying. I'm just afraid that the next 3 seasons will be Jack and others trying to get back to the island, with the events of how they got off as flashbacks.

Then again, all of the next 3 seasons could use flashforwards instead of flashbacks, while keeping the main storyline on the island.

Eitherway, I feel that a major motivator to watch and be interested in the characters and story would be lost, if we know for certain that they will get off the island.

i cant start to imagine though what they 'll have next season that will make any sense
for one, if they come out with an "alternate timeline" thing it will be totally lame...

But is he dead dead or is he John Locke dead? Having John Locke rise from the dead was pretty annoying to me. Look at his wound, it's slightly to the left of center in the upper abdomen. Even if the bullet missed the major vessels it had to have penetrated bowel. He's been lying there for more than several days so he's had plenty of time for his peritonitis to kill him.
