  • Have to do something :(

Gather 'round, traders. It's time to convocate the first ever Apolyton Tradewars Conference. The first item on the agenda today is entitled "Lonely in Space: Increasing Usership of Apolyton Tradewars Games". So pull up a chair, sit on the floor, and let's get started on what is unquestionably the issue du jour, the issue of not enough players.

Rather than post a long monologue in this message for you to respond to, I want to incite a brainstorming session on increasing the usership of Apolyton Tradewars to past levels. I think we can all agree that this is desireable, so please, post your ideas, and we can start taking some creative action to increase usership.

Rules for the thread Yes, please follow these!:

    1. Do not respond to anyone else's postings.
    2. Only post new ideas.

Contact MarkG and have him post a news item in the Alt-Civs news for every new rebang.

Tell your friends about Tradewars 2002, and the Apolyton tradewars forum. Tell them how much fun it is to chug around the universe and pod your fellow forumers.

Get people in your immediate family to start playing, if you have an immediate family.

Tie the hands and feet of former TW players together and drag them back to the TW forum

Broadcast our Tradewars games over the Firaxis Tradewars game.
But of course, the downside is that we would probably lure a number of dupes into our games... But we would get more players...

I've seen one of you "adds" and I'm prepared to give it a try. No new games work fine on my computed anyway. Also, with my gf spending all her time on MUD I've got some extra time on my hands . Gotta do some thesis-work this week but later I look into it.

Glad to have you on board Kropotkin!

EDIT: Sorry for the "response" on your thread Aeturneus.

I've tested it (the B-game) now. Seems nice. Although there where not much action

Will give the main game a go later on, hopefully...

                          Wait, can this be?

We're getting more players?! Amazing! Good job, Aeturneus, and whoever else has been out there "advertising". If we get a real bustling community going, I have some excellent game ideas (some of which I've run by Aeturneus) you all might really enjoy.

Get me 20 frequent players and I'll rebang Tweakers (provided everyone's up for it; no one besides me and Aeturneus seems to be playing very seriously, and to be honest I'm not really at this point, either..) to 5000 sectors and 600 turns with less Terran regen.

Might disable ether probes altogether, too. I'm personally a big advocate of manual exploration. It's more exciting, leaves the universe unexplored longer, and helps balance down evils since they can't find the good bases to attack without spending turns to do so.

I will likely not play on my own server, either, if I get a good number of players in there. I would never cheat, but I don't want someone thinking there's a conflict of interest going on anyway.

(Yeah, I broke Aeturneus's rules for this thread, but I had to comment ;>)

Edit: Fixed a slightly amusing typo.
