  • Settings discussion for 1/25/02* Firaxis game

Just received an email from Dan, he said that around the end of this coming week he would have time for a rebang, he just needs us to get him a listing of all the settings that he needs. So, I figured that we should start this thread.

I will update this first thread with the settings that we settle on from below.

so, what's up? is the game going to be rebanged anytime soon? I thought it was happening last weekend...

as far as sets go, nothing to big - this will help evil a bit and thus serve towards balancing Dan's usual anti-evil settings

    photons from day 1

    600 turns or so...

that's all i can think of at the moment

I was thinking 1200 sectors, max distance between sectors a little higher to make for more/more interesting bubbles, around 600 turns a day (Urban Ranger, in his past posts, seemed to like that number).

Was also thinking port regen of 50%, since the universe will be small, and a terra max colonists setting of like 1,000,000, so there won't be any problems with getting colos for the goods.

Since this will be an open game, how do we want to control corps, if at all? Corps of 1, 2, 4, 5? Preferences?

Any other restrictions? I was thinking photons starting day 30 or 45, but with a wave duration of 60 seconds, so it's not so much of a rush when you use one.

i would suggest no restrictions on corps... for a truly open game... since it seems fair to me for 4 guys to team up on 2 if the 2 are totally ahead, and it allows the game to balance itself.

On the other hand, if it did get silly, we could always just file an anti-trust suit against the offenders!

Sounds good to me. What do you think about the photon time limit at 60 seconds instead of 20? What does everyone else think about the photon availability time? Day 1? Day 30?

60 is fine by me... this isn't really designed to be a 'twitch' game, and I prefer to give older players a chance to do their stuff...

as far as availability goes, day 20 seems to be optimal - most people have l2's by then

Most people will hopefully have L2's by then!

Aeturneus, since you have a copy of the game, can you give us a screen shot of all the options, so that we can fill in the options for the Apolyton game and give it to Dan? Or at least a listing of the important ones...

OK, I think these settings are reasonable.

                  1,200 sectors (per number registered)
                  600 turns per day
                  1,000,000 colos
50% port regen (since there are relatively few ports, need to be able to hit them more often).

Normal (default) corp settings, evil rob settings, planetary trade settings.

Most important - open game (to try and drum up some more players).

If it's possible to raise the number of bubbles (or increase the max distance between sectors) I think that would be cool, too.

What do we think of this?

Well, it's now 1/28/02...so when are we going to rebang this "1/25/02" game?

As far as the settings go, I'll go with what the majority wants.
Your suggested settings look fine to me Burbel

Well, unfortunately Apolyton was down (at least for me) all weekend, so I couldn't get in. Let me send these to Dan, and see what he has to say.

there is no official instruction manual for Tradewars 2002 persay.

However, there are a number of online resources that cover all the bases. I suggest you check out the useful url's thread, where you will find links to everything from helper programs (which often have help files to guide you through the interface) to strategy guides and tactical advice.

I would definitely recommend trying out SWATH or J-**** for the best TW experience - they take so much of the dullness out of repetitive typing and it really becomes quite fast moving, more of a strategy game than a typing game.
