If I wasn't leaving town in a week I would register twgs and start running it on my webserver. Dan just doesn't seem to have the time to maintain it the way we would like to see it maintained. If nobody else picks up the ball, maybe I will do this later in august when I get back from Quebec."There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind. I am curious to as why does the server crash so often. The box apparently is up as it's responding to pings.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

Well, in talking to a few friends that play this game more often, it seems like the part that allows the game to have multiple players at once also makes it much less stable, and I think that is the cause it goes down so much.
I liked Dan's idea of having a cron job (or the NT equivalent) to restart the server regularly, just in case, but I guess that he didn't have time to do that.
Still, all things aside, I am still very grateful for Dan and all the time he has spent in helping us with this!
And I'm sure the makers of Swath don't mind the registration fees I paid, either.

Personally, I think Dan gets a kickback from the makers of SWATH and that's why he really offered to host the game.
Now that so many of us have registered, there's no need to actually even bother running the game any more.
Let's hope that it's really just that they need all the processing power they can lay their hands on right now to compile the final version of Civ III.
EDIT:
BTW, the server is still down.Peace, Wisdom, and No Karma

There's an AT command in NT that can execute batch jobs at intevals. Not sure if that would do anything though since he might have to kill the server first before bringing it up, or something.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

You could do that. I think the reliability would be much better if he the cron job was such that
Every 3-4 hours it would kill the server and restart it regardless of anything. IT would be a bit inconvenient while playing but I doubt it takes hours for it to reload the service.King Thor

Even once every 24 hours right after extern is okay.
The server is STILL down. I thought they would have found it out on Monday?
