  • Rebang? (Vote)

Okay, I have a request. Could we rebang soon?

The reason I ask this is because this game was like a test, we didn't have a game before so no one knew how many players to expect and everything else like that. Also, Apolyton Corp. has emerged into dominance and will probably win the game eventually. Only 1 corp (evil) remains any threat to them.

I am hoping that if enough people vote for a rebang we can restart this game. Or atleast start another game. (yes a second game side by side with this one).
    ---------
The new (or replacement) game should be:

    1) Based on the Trade Wars rule set that we are currently working on, and a proper structure be set up to allow for it to be enforced. (Dual login problem).

    2) Considering there are about 50 active players currently playing. The number of sectors should be upped to anywhere from 3000 to 5000 sectors.

    3) Advance notice of the game start date be given so that as many people as possible know of the game the from the first day so that no one gets an advantage.
    --------

    What do others think?

I don't really want a re-bang, but I think that, if nothing else,
with all of the changes that have happened in this game (the turns
being upped, the port regens being upped, etc) a rebang might be
appropriate. Just let me know before hand so I can go postal on
      Ferrengal!

Hmm.. we have a slight problem here. This game is hosted by Firaxis and I am not so sure that they are willing to rebang the game. Dan Magaha has already complained about the server traffic and reduced the online time to the current 2h per day.

That's true, and it's easy to forget! Dan has been so helpful
in changing things that need changed that I think we might all
          be taking advantage of that...

I think the current game still has a lot of room to play in, and
that, overall, I am quite happy with the opportunity to play
this game again (until Civ 3 is released)...

For the rebang I think it's a bit early for that. As Burbel said the Ferrengi & Cylon homeworlds are both alive and kicking. There isn't even has been a serious attempt to invade them.

Besides, the game outcome isn't clear yet. We just wittnessed that mystery man "Midnight sun" wiping out an old and established corp (Shadows). And not too long ago Garth Vader and Apolyton Co destroyed each others bases. Then we have the evil Hutak & RyanR corp who has been quiet lately.. probably loading themself up. So I'd vote 'No' for rebang, not just yet, please!

No rebang, as Marko stated, anything can happen at this stage.

OK quickly, someone help me! What odds do defending planets
fighters get when you invade? There are 13k fighters on this
planet, and I am in an ISS with just under 15000 fighters...

I would like to see the game rebanged (congrats apolyton) and Thor's modded league rules adopted. Dan Magaha, do you think it is possible to use e-mail to enforce a no dual login policy? If this is impossible, it doesn't necessarily mean that we should look for another game host, but simply that we have to abide by an honor code - a code that could be inserted into the game rules that appear when signing in. Clear violators could be prosecuted by mutual alliance of good and evil against those who show contempt for the code. They would have nowhere to hide.

I think there is a point to rebanging the game and adopting the new rules, even if Dan can't enforce them. Honor and our mutual agreement on the rules should be enough to keep it straight - and opportunities for cheating will never yield enough wealth to withstand the combined forces of apolyton forummers. Of course, this depends on our ability to *catch* violators in the first place, but that is not as hard as might appear. If someone is obviously dl'ing there will be wierd new names and the game population will grow too fast. Then we just keep an eye out for rookies with fully loaded battleships, contact them and have a talk, and find out how they got so rich. It's not ideal, but I think it would be better than the current system.

Hmmm.. How much does the Trade Wars game server cost? How much bandwith does it take?

Just to add to that, I think the game should be rebanged on a weekend, a friday or saturday night, so that people with regular lives can actually have a chance to get in on the action right at the start when the game is really fresh.

It depends on the military reaction levels. If there offensive they attack at lower odds than normal. (You'll take damage even if you retreat without a fight) If they've been set to defensive they attack at higher than normal fgt combat odds. (you can retreat if you haven't entered the fight yet).

                        Happy hunting

You realize that there are TONS of practically empty Trade Wars games running? And some have lots of ppl.

Right now I am playing on siglinp.tzo.com:21 but thestardock.com:21 has some good games. You can ask the admins if they will create a special Apolyton game. And these are fast servers with unlimited time..

Look around ppl, no need to pay for anything..

If that is the case then we could start a specialized Apolyton Game customized to our rules and our interests, this game could be in addition to the one firaxis has setup for us.

What say oh noble Administrator and CEO of the mighty Apolyton Corp?

Well, if this is really democratic, then this is the one shot this poor newbie gets to make hissay count as much as the CEO of Apolyton Corp. (Isn't democracy great!)

And I vote NO on the Rebang issue.

I'm still learning the basics (like, "Ferrengi BAD, VERY BAD" and "Density Scanner GOOD!!" and finally, darn it, my mother was right, putting money in savings account is good, and so a little more time in a game I have no shot at competing in is helpful. But most of all, I am persuaded that when the Lions war, the only ones that profit are scavengers. And I sure ain't no Lion.

Final consideration: maybe we should keep on playing this experimental game a little while longer until we decide on any more rules questions that come up--the first set sounds great, but there are sure to be a few more things people think of in the next week or so, as well as feasibility issues. Especially working the DL problem out, that sounds a wee bit complicated (especially considering that Dan is a workin' man and may not have time to coordinate/monitor all that stuff on company time?) But now i'm just talking out of ignorance, so I'll shut up.

Also, I think the Federation should start a welfare and subsidy program for small traders.

Also, is there any way to help the poor millions of wage-slaves owned by the mega-corps, forced to build citadels for profit? Can we help them organize? Maybe an IBW (Intergalactic Brotherhood of Workers), and some strikes? Maybe someone with extra hold space can drop leaflets over Apolyton territory...

For that matter, maybe the independent traders should make their own union. After all, in the old days, the only union more powerful than the Teamsters was the Soviet Union. Think about it indies.........
