    CapTVK,

That's the general idea, but notice that there is a percentage for both buying and selling. For example: selling 42% or buying 3%. The higher the percentage the more it is in your favour.

Seeing that you only get 250 turns (IIRC) a day, time is limited. Therefore distance becomes a concern also.

    Chowlett,

I don't think you were attacked by the Ferengi. You can check the logs to find out. Like Markos, my ship was destroyed early on, and I limped along in my escape pod until I found the shipyard to trade it for a Scout Marauder. Now I am back to an Orion...

Damn. I was off for 3 days, and got blown up by the Ferengi. I now have an escape pod and no money. There hardly seems any point in carrying on. Any way I can restart?

I don't think that your ship is blown up by Ferengi. Check the logs. There is an opportunist (:-P) seeing a ship with only 2 fighters defending it, and blows your ship up!
Heee. Really sorry for that. I hope that no offense is taken.
Let's do more experiment and try to be better in the next session. I think it is safer to park in federal space unless you are a fugitive. So remember, don't try to join the Apolyton Corporation before getting its password.
You really want to take me seriously?
      Think twice!
