  • Civ2 PBEM Diplomacy- Units and cities

    I'm working on a 2.0 version of my utility, Civ2 PBEM Diplomacy, that you can get on



    Version 2.0 will add units exchange and city exchange, so I'll more than pleased if you can enligth me about how can be done this in a fair way. Kramsib already make very valuables suggestions on a old thread:



    My main concern is to find a way that disables cheating. For example, if you can interchange all units ever, a tank can be used by two civs: only need to exchange it every turn...

    Some suggestions?

    Unit and city exchange

    For the cities, I think you should include the possibility to offer and demand!

    But for the units, I think it would be enough to only include the offer: so you wouldn't "discover" too many informations on the other players! And in case of an unit exchange, the second player only needs to make an offer in return, and that's it (you get it at the start of your next turn, not a big delay!)! Anyway, pbem is so much about trust in the other players...

    And I think all units should be included!

    Last, about Leo: you just need to decide at the beginning of the game that such a practice is forbidden (or allowed, depending on the scen!) and it would work! No need to include it in the program (IMHO). Again, in a pbem you need to trust the other players as cheating is so easy! and in that case, you would need 2 cheaters, which would double the risks of them being caught...

      Interesting, but a "demmand" posibility is also very interesting. What about this barter: "I will grant you a peace teatry if you give me the city of Málaga, the tech of "Advance Desing of Armors",100 gold and 10 figthers"?

      Many real-history peace teatries implies units destrucction. I'm thinking on Chartago's Fleet on First and Second Punic War

      You have reason: cheating on Civ2 PBEM is so easy. But I don't know the cheating of Leo or the use of units by two civ can be discovered by others players... I was thinking on this limit: 'You can exchange a city/units only one time', but I found it too restrictive for cities. About units, I'm not sure.

        First of all, I need to apologize if I am not able to be really clear: I'm quite drunk at the moment...

        Yes, no doubt about it, that's the kind of barter that needs to be done in any pbem!

        BUT what I meant is : such a bargain can be discussed AND settled by email, chat or pm between 2 players and then "respected" by them: the first 1 would give what he is supposed to give to the 2nd one, and then the reverse would occur!!

        Of course you would have to state at the beginning of the game that the "exchange" agreement made need to be respected! With the players I am playing with currently, no doubt it would work! But maybe I am too "idealistic"??
