  • The Great X-Com Tournament (Civ2 Scenario)

Ready for a Challenge Tournament? If so post here. I'll post the rules later (provided there is interest on this).

PS. For those who may not know, the X-COM I'm talking about is a Civ2 scenario appearing in the FW expansion pack.

I didn't know there was an X-COM scenario. Where can I found it?
I've spent a lot of time playing UFO: "Enemy Unknown" (aka X-COM: UFO defense).

I could be interested, but I should take a view at the rules to be sure.

Preguntáme a mi, che Las reglas son simples. Se trata de jugar el escenario y llevar un log de todo lo acontecido en la partida. despues se comparan resultadso. En este escenario en particular se tendria en cuenta el score y el numero de bajas sufridas. That's it. Comentarios sobre estrategias seguidas y todo eso tampoco estaria mal

La Fayette started several challenge threads last year, all saw much good competition. X-Com was played in his "Conflicts in Civilization" thread. There was also "Delenda Sunt", a competition with the game's original Rome scenario; "Arriba! Spain wins WWII", playing as the minor civs in the original ww2 scenario; and others. It was much fun!

X-Com in the CiC thread? That's probably why I must have missed

Anyway, a second challenge wouldn't do any harm, would it? Any other suggestion is welcome as well

Marquis de Sodaq was (almost) right: I decided last year that I would like to play all the 'official' scenarios and post my results, so that those willing to compete might do that easily.
You can find 4 threads in the archive (using the 'search' engine):
              1) 'Delenda sunt' about the 'Rome' scenario (IIRC Dave V managed to win in 43 years with the Romans ... and got beaten later on ). I must check who it was.
              2) 'Arriba' about winning ww2 with smaller civs. IIRC Fire Dragon now holds the record with the Spaniards, the Turks and the Neutrals. I hold the record with the French (since I seem to be the only one who managed to win ww2 with the French ).
              3) 'Scenarios: Conflicts in Civilization'. Marquis de Sodaq holds the 'Mongol' record and arii holds 'Discover'. I hold several, but Xin Yu has recently started beating many of them (but he makes use of caravan rehoming, which leaves my pride somewhat untouched ).
              4) 'Scenarios: Fantastic Worlds'. I have played a few, without much competition up to now.

Playing X-Com, I DESTROYED THE ALIENS IN MARCH 2013.

AFAIK, this is the record to beat.

                I just checked:
DrFELL is the one who managed to beat Dave V's record.

                40 TURNS WITH THE ROMANS

May his glorious name be remembered throughout the centuries

UFO was GREAT (in fact, it was THE game that made me fall in love with computer strategy gaming).

But IMO the X-Com scenario is also fun (and very different from many others, since there is almost no civ building,...but deadly fights all the way... remember the mutons?)

Most of the CiC scenarios aren't generally well designed and even have gross mistakes (the musketeer slot etc etc), so I would rather prefer not to play these (fun aside of course . The FW scenarios are more on the modpack side, so they are better balanced. They are much better designed as well.

LaFayette, did you keep a log of the X-COm game? If so, would you mind posting it here?

Unfortunately, my old copy of UFO doesn't work under Win98.

It starts well, but after a while it crashes when starting or ending a mission.

mine works well, it has some "graphic" bugs when attaking alien bases but it never crashes in these missions. It only crashes when you minimize the chasing windows, but that's easy to avoid, do not minimize
