I already said it: they were mostly veterans of the Civil War, scaped from spain when the republican forces collapsed. They crossed the Pyrinees and were internated in concentration camps by the frenchies . When Germany invaded Poland, they joined the Foreign Legion to fight against fascism. When the french army collapsed (it began to be usual for the spanish ), many of them achieved to flee into Northern Africa and Britain to join De Gaulle in his free french army. Almost all of them were in LeClerc's mechanized division when the allies disembarked in Normandy, and they were the first allied troops who entered in Paris.

I didn't know that. I have always thought that Free French forces were composed only with French soldiers.

How many were these Spanish soldiers who served in Free French?

I plan to give 3 Spanish infantry units to Axis in August 1941 and 1 or 2 to Allies in June 1940. The appearance of the unit is problem because they had different uniforms as Spanish infantry, as Blue Division and as Free French troops.

I have never seen the Guadalajara picture on the net. I have seen it hundreds of times in magazines althought last time I think it was long ago.
