  • A Spanish civilization in Civ3?

It appears than Civ3 will have only 14 civs each of one will have unique units and advantages.

    My questions are two:
    1. What do you THINK it would happened with Spanish civilization in Civ3?
    2. How do you LIKE Spanish civilization be represented in Civ3?

    My own opinion is:
    1. Spanish will appear as a very aggressive civilization and it´s unique units and advantages will be surely worst than those for others civilizations as Americans or English.
    2. I hope Spanish civilization not to be in the game at all. Really, I don´t like uniques civs but if finally there will be unique civs I prefer Spanish civ not to be in the game, than a very likely impartial idea of the Spanish civilization.

In one of the preview screenshots, there's a city called Salamanca. So I gues the Spanish may be there. And I'd like them to be in Civ3, for I always play as them in Civ2.

My gues is that their unique unit could be the Conquistador. Hmmm, Pizarro...

I also always play as the Spanish in Civ2. But... what would you do, Fiera, if your playing-style does not match with spanish unique units and advantages?

Or maybe a tercio unit. Could be fun a Civil Guard one

I agree with you, Flip, that Spanish civilization will be discriminated in comparisson with Anglo-Saxons ones, but we have to be usual of this.
I only hope that appears some more Spanish wonders and that in cities list will appear Almería

Some reports I saw said that the number of Civs will be 16. I saw a screen shot (can't remember where, though) that showed Madrid on a list of top cities, so I believe that they will not be overlooked. How can you have a history game without Spain?!!? Seems silly to me. No word on Spanish wonders, though. I guess Kindal and Jay Bee will have to get busy with some scenarios if the worst comes to pass.

            I beg to differ.

I hope there's an option to turn off unique Civs and advantages. If that doesn't work, I hope to be able to play around with the rules.txt or whatever, but that will be very near cheating...

And if that doesn't work either, I will have to reckon that Civ3 won't be an appropriate heir to the Civ series...

Which is something that I already fear right now... have you read my column, tíos?

Well, even in the worst of the cases, It will remain the scenarios.

I hope It would be good Civ3 scenarios about Spanish story at least as good (it would be difficult best ) as those some people of The Spanish Civilization II Site has made for Civ2. Will we be able to continue playing on theses super-scenarios?
Although as Fiera say in his column, it’s a pity that no more of 7 civs will de included in the scenarios.

                  St. Leo,

Short but provocative reply. Mind to elaborate a bit please? I always thought that the Latin world was very underrepresented in Civ2, not to tell Civ1 That was the very first reason why the Spanish Scenario series were created.

                  Flip, Fiera et al,

I believe the unique units y tal y tal will appear as a game option, which I think is very convenient (to never use it, he, he)

As to the scenarios... well, currently I am not particularly very keen on doing that. Scenario making takes a lot of time and our second offspring is almost knocking at the entrance door

(PS. Flip, are you the guy at the University of Granada who wrote me a few weeks ago? I am glad to have you as one of our regulars now. Hopefully some more will join )

Ah, Fiera, I read you column. I found it good and entertaining. The very high level of response originated proves it. Some of the reactions to it were very moronic, btw

Gracias! It took me a hell of time to write it, and yet I couldn't help making a few typos...

Bah, not that I care that much...

The people of the Spanish Civ Forum opinion count much more to me than the words of certain Civ3 forum posters...

Aha, so city population is about to grow, eh? That's great to hear, but it will be a pity if there won't be a single Civ3 scn by Jesús Balsinde...

BTW, Firaxis have already talked about a Civ2 scn conversion tool for Civ3... Maybe it won't be any good, but still...

I think it won´t be very good for two main reasons:
-People who made scenarios for civ2 has made them thinking in the problems of the civ2 AI and If some bugs are changed could be that the scenarios works in a strange way.
-Graphics are very differents and I don´t know if at first itme they look good, and it is very important for you, isn´t it, Fiera ?
