  • BATS (murciélagos)

There is something that I've always been curious to know:

Why in all the eastern Spain heralds you can see a BAT on the top?

Is there any connection with Murcia?

    (mur=raton/mouse; cielago=ciego/blind)

Applying the same logic Catalonia would be "Land of Cats" (just joking)

      Thanks a lot kIndal,

      But... Why a bat?

I mean... I can understand a dragon, a lion, an eagle, any mythological monster, a snake, a bear, a wolf... they all represent something to frighten the enemies, or some kind of strenght, but a bat?

I would like to go deeper.

when I was a child they told that it had something to do with Jaume I, I think that just the cities reconquered by him got in the shields, (Castellon, Valencia..)

they liked it because the bats eat mosquitoes and the mosquitoes caused a lot of illnes and it´s an uncomfortable insect and
in this region there used to be a lot of rice cultive, with its mosquitoes

I think that the right ansmwer but I could be wrong
