The CSS Virginia (The Merrimack) has been set out, at Richmond to do damage to the Yankee ships. The CSS Louisiana and Missisippi, have been ordered to force themselves up the Missisippi with the considerable Confederate Missisippi fleet and any ships that can be moved there in order to break the Union advance there.

The Army of Northern Virginia and its newly commisioned colored regiments have finally begun the march into Maryland, where they have quickly siezed Harpers Ferry and the supplies depot there. Historically Brown attempted to use this depot to bring a slave revolution to the South, now its goods are being escorted back into Virginia to resupply the Confederate Army.

    Volunteery Manumission Begun!

Slaveowners in the Confederacy have been offered renumeration for freeing their slaves by the Confederate Government. The wives of plantation owners at war, burdened by the task of administration, have rushed to sieze this deal, many male former slaves are joining the army.

This also answers the moral question that many pro-Unionists in Europe have had about the CSA, yes the CSA is committed to the slow weaning of our nation from a dependence on an antiquated system. We will stand for Freedom, Liberty, and Equality rather than the racists of the North who yet to offer even so generous an offer as our own.

The Confederacy can win with your help, the Union can win without it and were they to have it they would not be so imdebted to you as would the Confederacy would be. In fact the Union, who once waged a war of agression against you, would be in every position to forget your blood and effort expended to help you wheras the Confederacy would not be so. The Confederacy would owe far more and be more than willing to pay off that debt.

    Cotton embargo threatened.

The Confederacy, the world's top producer of cotton, has threatened Britain with an embargo if she does not at least make moves towards ending the bloodshed in America.

The Confederacy is also secretly funding the presidential run of McClellan, the politically ambitious and very popular general, a peace democrat.

      OOC:

I find it amusing that Britain has turned so quickly from a nation ready to go to war with the Union over the siezure of Confederate envoys from British ships to a nation who supports the Union. But hey, its your nation isn't it and I guess that a bunch of my stuff is stretching it too. I probably shouldn't have picked a time I knew so much about because basically everything will piss me off for being historically inaccurate.

        ThreadStarter Post

Technically its 1867, but I think it would be better to make things 2 days = 1 year, since its a rather slow game, does everyone agree? I won't change it unless there's support.

yeah like voluntary manumission. But we're not here to recreate history exactly. SO lets add one more to the list of unlikely events!

oh and I agree about the time thing. So that makes this 1864?

Lincoln Defeated in Re-election Bid! McClellan Takes Office!

General McClellan has narrowly won the office of President of the United States (He himself rejected any aid from overt Confederate sources, but one of course cannot trace every single dollar back to its original source). Following news of the CS manumission and more imporantly Lincoln's inability to deliver on his promises of military victory, McClellan gained enough key votes to make his way into the White House.
Congress has scrambled to follow the lead of the CS, (though of course they don't paint it as such) in offering compensation for the freeing of the slaves in the Union border states, which under legislation passed under Lincoln is to occur this year. This has been confirmed in the passing of the 13th Constitutional Amendment.
Under pressure from abolitionists, humanists, and politicians seeking to appear advanced of the CS, an additional Amendment has been proposed, which defines citizenship more broadly and would guarantee equal execution of the laws irregardless of race or former condition of servitude. It appears this Amendment will pass.
McClellan has convinced Congress to offer a permanent Treaty of Peace to the CS under the following terms:

Immediate Ceasfire and withdrawal of all men and arms of war.
Recognition and respect of current borders, including Indian Territory and West Virginia to the US.
Neither government shall be accountable or responsible for any reparations or past debts to each other or each's state governments, but individuals and institutions are legally bound to settle, immediately or under the original terms of the contracts, debts to people from the other side contracted before the outbreak of war.
Neither federal nor state governments may impose on one another or individuals or businesses origionating thereof tariffs or fees in excess of those held for their own citizens on the Mississippi River or Chesapeake Bay, as these are controlled jointly by both countries. All other crossing and meeting points may have tarriffs set as the countries will.
Those walls are absent of glory as they always have been. The people of tents will inherit this land.

The British Empire officially recognizes the Confederate States of America. However, we demand that you free 1/10 of your slaves every two years.

The Confederate States officially accept the Union peace treaty.

                To: Britain
                From: The Confederate States

Your recognition is not so important anymore, the Union has recognized us and that is enough recognition for us, we make no such agreement. We recognise the right of our citizenry to hold slaves. We recognize that this is a loathesome right but it is a right, whether or not it is made illegal is a matter for the Several Confederate States.

                Sulley v. Ferdinand, Surprise Ruling

Atticus Sulley, a recently freed slave, and his former master James Ferdinand lately had their case before the North Carolinian Supreme Court, and in a surprise ruling the court's decision was in favor of the freedman, declaring that the transaction between Mr. Ferdinand's wife and the Confederate Government was legal. While this does not set precident for other states it does mark a triumph for race relations in the Confederacy.

                  Austro - Hungarian Danube Monarchy

Austria welcomes the peace in the Americas, as it´s a sign of humanity and reason.
Within the next days a permanent Austro-Hungarian embassador will be sent to Leesburg/NewOrleans, if that it accepted by the CSA.

Meanwhile the royal Eastern African Squadron has found a stripe of land suitable for colonization. Neither Oman nor Great Britain are official protectors of the region, so the Austrians start negotiations with the local tribes.
The land in question is situated between the Tanganijka Lake in the west, Ethiopia in the north and Oman´s holdings in the south and will be called "Franz-Joseph-Land".

The Colonial Chamber has granted a large sum to be invested into the colonization project. And with quite a bit of dissent at home it shouldn´t be hard to find settlers, too.

In other news, Denmark has officially claimed Schleswig and Holstein, both having a German majority populationwise. Prussia asks the Kaiser for help in a possible war. Until now, no decision has been made, though the general opinion is leaning towards a war.

                  Austria-Hungary to Great Britain
With the recent aggressions of Denmark our country is on the brink of war. We´d like to hear your opinion on the affair, though, for we do not seek any conflict with your mighty empire.
Furthermore, we ask you to formally agree with our colonization in Eastern Africa as a sign of goodwill and friendship...

The Austrian Ambassador will be welcomed to the Confederacy. In fact the Confederacy would be willing to open trade far more with Austria than previously done.

                    Talks of Industry

Since the days of the Industrial Revolution the North has held the edge in production of manufactured goods, but as Alabama's Steel Foundries expand this looks to be changing. In Texas factories open up to produce domestic goods. Texas, Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia offer grants to aspiring entrepreneurs, the other states do not.
