MONROE DOCTRINE TO BE ENFORCED BY STRENGTH OF ARMS IF NECESSARY! - President
Ruffhaus declares that European colonization of the Americas will no longer
    be tolerated.

Richmond, Virginia - November 1, 1863 - In a throwback to the days when
Americans could be proud of their heritage, President Jefferson Ruffhaus VIII
recalled the Monroe Doctrine into effect and chastised France and Holland for
their repeated attempts to colonize the Americas. The Confederacy calls on
El Presidente Gerwaldo of Mexico to unite with the Confederate States in
calling for the end European sprall in the Americas.

When asked about the sudden shift in foreign policy, the president stated,
"These are not the days when the actions of whiskered tyrants from Illinois
will be tolerated! And they most certainly are not the days when European
ponces will come to the Americas and stake their claim at their leisure!"
The crowd assembled at the statehouse immediately broke out into raucous
cheers of "Sic Semper Tyranis! Sic Semper Tyranis! Death to France! Death
to Holland!" The president continued, "Unlike the United States the
Confederacy has a backbone and a force of will! We call on our Mexican
friends to the south and our longtime friends in Canada to support us in this
    position.

Political pundits across the nation are already lauding the Ruffhaus Doctrine
as a document that will stand alongside the writings of the president's
namesake and fellow Virginian from Charlottesville. In the meantime many
cautiously wonder if conflict with France or Holland is a wise move, and are
asking the president to at least try diplomacy before declaring war on such
    powerful empires.

The French government has decried the Brazilian treatment of the rainforest,
and is aiding in the Dutch purge of this evil.

The Dutch will be generous and share the land of New Zeland with us. Let us accept their offer.

The Stadholder sends his compliments to Queen Victoria as the Dutch Navy again helps our British
    friends.

Rangoon shall be liberated after its brutal occupation by the ill trained,
    and ill led Chinese hordes.

My compliments to the mighty ruler of the austrian empire. Your fist makes mountains crumble, your wisdom shines like a sun before us, your heartbeat is the rythm by wich our armies march united!

Don't you think you little jerks have had enough and don't you realize the real fight for you is back at home, Austria and Turkey are going to make mince meat out of you

Russia - Your token resistance is no match for the combined might of
awesome Turkey and the Divine Order. Make it easy on yourself and surrender
your cities to us, or you will know what it is to spend the rest of your
days in a pain amplifier. You are outmatched by superior genetics, and with
the fall of Warsaw you shall see Nature in its primal supremacy do in a
less-evolved species. China cannot save you now, only suicide can.

May Dixie play though the Big Apple!

Keep on trucking Brazil!! The Mexican Government welcomes you back to the
party!! Down with the Imperialistic European Vermin!! Viva Mexico!! Viva
    Brazilia!!

    May the Sultan Live forever!

France, look out the Confederacy is plotting with Austria and Mexico against
    you and your friends.

These Russians fall faster then fleas. This here war is going to be over in less then a week! Stockholm is ours! Let us drive out those foul Russian invaders.

Move out of the Yellow or face an atomic disaster coming your way

Russia, abandon China and save yourself.

chazzov, It is time to let a new leader command, move out or be forced out

Once again Army Group Brasilia shall attempt to halt the destruction of the rain forests.

LEE INVADES NEW ENGLAND! - Army of Northern Virginia Marches into Manhattan,
Boston. Southern troops bivouac in Central Park, Boston Commons.

Noo Yawk City - October 18, 1863 - General Robert E. Lee continued his
invasion of the United States, seizing New York City and then continuing up
the coast and capturing Boston. After 'Picket's Charge' gave the Confederacy
a stunning victory at Gettysburg earlier in the year Lee relentlessly pursued
the Yankees north, not halting until the enemy cowardly swam the St. Lawrence
River as they did the Potomac ayear ago.

President Jefferson Ruffhaus VIII traveled to New York by train to
congratulate the troops of the Army of Northern Virginia on their bravery and
sacrifice to the Cause. He remarked along the that the New Jersey
countryside is actually 'quite pleasant.' He vowed to support locally
introduced legislation that would set aside large portions of the state for
agrarian concerns. The president was heard saying, "It would be a tragedy if
one day people referred to this fine state as 'The armpit of the nation.' It
is best that we arrived in time to save these people from their tyrannical
    industrialist masters!"

The president then lauded efforts by General James Longstreet in his efforts
to occupy and stabilize Washington, DC as Lee marched north. Also
ackowledged was General Quantrill, who continued east from Minnesota into
Detroit. A key to the fall of the city came as Quantrill's Missouri Cavalry
was ferried across Lake Michigan by a fat brewer captured in Steven's Point,
Wisconsin. In the midwest General Nathan Bedford Forest and John Bell Hood
commanding Confederate armies in Kansas, Missouri, and Utah forced the
Yankees out of Nebraska. Reports say that General Forest spit on the grave
of the traitor John Brown before leaving Kansas.

A smooth turn for most concerned. A couple of NMRs, though.

Sorry about the serious delay in posting these things. I've been having problems with my ISP and my phone lines. The problems should be taken care of by the middle of this week, and everything should be back up to speed by then.

Once the map is up, I'll post when retreats are due from work (hopefully home).

Also, once the map is up, I'll post builds & disbands. It's easier for me that way, and I'll be less likely to screw them up...

MDR, glad to have you back. I have to complain though. I never moved F LMA last Fall. It does exist, I even pointed out twice that the map was wrong. Plus, I am out of town until Sunday.

A few notes about the map:

Britain's F Tai Holds and F Mls - Sin orders are invalid. No such unit on the first one and no such destination on the second. Britain also seems to have some of its fleets and armies mixed up (orders for armies where there are fleets and fleets where there are armies). Most of these units were ordered to hold or support this turn and did not interfere with anything.

Russian A Sweden is dislodged and can retreat to the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea, the Skaggerak Channel, or off the board.

Please check for mistakes (I am sure there are a few).

Hey there. it seems that none of the Confederacy's orders have been reflected on the updated map. Can you double check that please. Thanks.

RETREAT DEADLINE, BUILDS & DISBANDS DEADLINE, & MORE

Okay, I need retreats (you know who you are) by Sunday (5-26-01) at 11:59 pm.
Builds will be Wednesday (5-30-01) at 11:59 pm.

              BUILDS & DISBANDS

              Britain (Shadowstrike) (25 Units\28 SCs)
              France (Victor) (22 Units\24 SCs)
              Holland (ScottF) (21 Units\22 SCs)
Austria (His Divine Shadow) (9 units\11 SCs)
              Russia (Chazzy) (13 Units\13 SCs)
              Turkey (Sahib) (15 Units\17 SCs)
              China (Defiant) (12 Units\13 SCs)
              Japan (Talon) (6 Units\7 SCs)
              USA (Midshipman) (4 Units\1 SCs)
              CSA (Ruffhaus) (13 Units\17 SCs)
              Mexico (Gerwald) (8 Units\9 SCs)
Brazil (Napoleon) (4 Units\5 SCs) (Can't build; no build centers available)

Well, I was expecting to have to find a replacement for Midshipman, but with Ruff's successful campaign against him this year, the once mighty USA is now down to one unit. We can continue as fast as possible. As always, check for mistakes and let me know what you find. With a map this size, there are bound to be a few. Also, Victor, let me know if you have found a replacement, or should I go looking for one?

China appears to have 12 units not 11.

France is also surprised at the completeness of the victory that the Confederates could achieve against Mexico, if they should decide that Texas, in fact, stretches a little below the Rio Grande.

The builds & disbands have been corrected. Actually, I'm surprised that I didn't make more mistakes on this list. It's always the thing that gets me, and I was doing it on the sly at work.

BTW, Talon, if you NMR again, you're out. I'm sorry, but we need somebody to take up the slack in the Pacific. If you'd been sending in orders and builds regularly, you would have been in the Carolines and Marshals by now, and the Chinese wouldn't be threatening your home SCs.

FRENCH TYRANT "OFF HIS ROCKER" CLAIMS PRESIDENT

Richmond, Virginia - November 24, 1863 - At the traditional Thanksgiving Day parade President Jefferson Ruffhaus VIII took a break from the festivities to answer questions from the press. Chief amongst their concerns were the apparanent downturn in the Confederacy's relations with France after the Monroe Doctrine was called into use again earlier in the year.

The president laughed off these concerns, stating that Victor Napoleon Galis is "off his rocker if he thinks that the Confederacy is going to tolerate French settlements in Alaska." Apparently diplomatic requests to France requesting that their ships not land in Anchorage and establish trade and/or military outposts fell on deaf ears.

Furthermore, President Ruffhaus decried ridiculous French claims that of Imperialism on the part of the Confederacy, adding "Isn't it amusing that a nation with colonies on 5 of the 6 inhabitable continents prances around throwing the term 'Imperialist' at anyone brave enough to stand against their tyranny?" After a brief pause, the president played to the assembled masses on the Richmond streets, and shouted the motto of the Commonwealth of Virginia, "Sic Semper Tyranis!"

The president went on to dismiss the outrageous suggestions from across the pond that war with Mexico is on the horizon. "Mexico has done nothing but honor their agreements, and rush to the aid of their fellow American states against the forces of tyranny and greed," said President Ruffhaus to reporters. Coincidentally, calls for volunteers in Austin, Texas were indefinately suspended by an executive order jointly signed by President Ruffhaus and Texas Governor George W. Boxwood.
What is best in life? Crush your enemy! See him driven before you. And to hear the lamentation of his women.

It is rather curious that the Confederacy should make a distinction between its actions and those of the French Republic. While, the French Republic makes no secret of its Imperialism, "President" Ruffhaus rules over four times as many people as originally elected him. All these territories claimed by force of arms. That they are all on the same continent should make no difference.

The Confederacy seeks nothing more than to spread the plague of slavery to the civilized world, under a banner of anti-Imperialism. Given that your people keep slaves Mr. Ruffhaus, I should hardly think you can take the moral high ground on this issue. Mexico... yes, they might have a stronger claim to it, even though they have overrun a myriad of smaller nations. I still don't know what you hope to gain from your policy, or why you think that Britain would remain your ally while you continue to denounce Imperialism. I'm beginning to think we made a grievous mistake a few decades back. We'd be willing to make it up to the British if they should chose to regain their troublesome colonies. We have no interest ruling your people (for reasons that should be amply clear).
