Saint Louis Missouri - April15, 1863 - Quantrill's Rangers captured St. Paul,
Minnesota yesterday, guaranteeing free trade on the entire length of the
Mississippi River. The square hats so proudly worn by Minnesota troops
appear to have been on too distinctive as Quantrill's men easilyt noticed and
outflanked Yankee reserve units in Minnesota. They then quickly dispactched
the "limp" resistance offered up by the Wisconsin militia. Two heavy-set
fellows escaped across the Canadian border in a beer wagon on the day before
the skirmish in Green Bay.
In a concurrent maneuver, General James Longstreet proudly led the Army of
Tennessee across the Ohio River, seizing the Federal cities of Cincinnati,
Columbus, and Indianapolis. "Old Pete" encountered only marginal resistance,
as the Buckeye state fell to the brave boys in butternut and grey faster than
OSU can blow a 30 point lead to the Woverines.
