    U.S. to Sioux tribes :

We are extending you national status to certain land grants. Do not infringe upon settled territory and we will never bother you again.

    U.S. to Germany (SECRET) :

We will give you information about all of our military technology if you will do the same for us.

    Military orders :

Basically maintain the same objectives as before, give commanding officers licence to use whatever tactics work best (as long as there are no atrocities). Keep getting that army strength up and using superior numbers to our advantage. Use barges and rails to transport heavy artillery pieces for bombardment of tough spots.
a reminder- I posted earlier to keep watch over the Canadian border, that is still being maintained.

Futher evidence that these two men were working for the French government and officals tell us that soon they will have a confession that the French government ordered them to commit this act.

    JUNE 1881 Update

    North America

The Union continues to gain ground. Extending its lines into Oklohoma has paid off, drawing off other troops from a planned Confederate offensive into New Mexico Territory, which was cancelled as a result. The fighting around Memphis, however, has continued to remain static. Various attempts to turn the Confederate flank have been beaten back by well-entrenched infantry.

Several pockets of Confederate resistance have surrendered to Union forces which were encircling them.

Sioux tribes which had fled across the border to Canada are returning to Dakota Territory. The residents there fear further trouble.

    Europe/Asia Minor

As usual, Europe remains quiet, though, like a gunpowder keg, a single spark could ignite the whole continent into open war.

    Middle East/North Africa

Ottoman forces continue to press towards Isfahan--and Persian forces continue to beat them back. The Persians have more than made up for their technological inferiority by strong entrenchments and numerical superiority.

More bloodshed on the Arabian Peninsula, though nothing worth mentioning.

    East Asia/Orient

Nothing much here. China continues to remain wary of Russia to the north and Japan to the east.

    Central/South Africa

Massive Zulu uprising in South Africa! The Zulus, under their king, Cetwayo, have once again begun their drive to eradicate the British and Boers from their homelands, burning several towns and homes in central South Africa. A zulu army defeated two battalions of British regulars; this is not surprising, as they were not trained to deal with native resistance of this sort. Boer units have had more success against the Zulu hordes, but even this cannot hold off disaster without British support.

    South America

Peru and Chile have made peace. The border will stay where it has been for the past 35 years.

    Australia/Oceania

    Nothing here.

    -------

    NPC Diplomacy

    From: Transvaal, Orange Free State
    To: Great Britain

The Zulus threaten our homes, as well as those of your people in this part of Africa. Will you send over an army to deal with this great threat?

    From: CSA
    To: Great Britain & Allies
    *secret*

If there ever was a perfect time to catch the United States off guard, this is it! I advise an invasion from Canada in addition to your planned operations against the Germans.

    -------

    Other

Until more is heard from emu, Jack, and Frozzy, the countries they control will be regarded as NPC nations and thus under my control.

We are now doing 3 months/turn. Hopefully this will help speed up the NES.

Update started, but first some quick NPC diplomacy.

    To Great Britain
    From Russia
    *secret*

Sounds great. How will we respond if the United States decides to enter the war, though?

    To Great Britain
    From France
    *secret*

I see nothing wrong with that.

We must plan a suprise attack against Germany before they can do it to us. We need to attack very soon. I propose the following. Britain will launch a huge naval attack while Italy and Russia will launch a land attack. Once the major naval attack is finished Britain should be able to control most of the seas stopping trade with Germany. Then Britain will launch a land attack against Germany. How does that sound?

Where confederate forces try to hole themselves up in urban areas, go around in fast movements to gain strategic ground in the advancing front while more troops surround the pockets, softening them up with artillery and attacking from all sides, forcing the pockets to either surrender or be caught in a hopeless situation. Also let it be known, though not officially, that even though looting and abuse of prisoners is discouraged even if pockets don't surrender, special care will be taken of the prisoners and towns if they surrender without U.S. troops having to fight for it.

Extend the front with the fast moving pocket technique (it will be practical most anywhere where the Confederates have inferior numbers) in addition to Arkansas and Tennessee, also into Oklahoma.

    3 months/turn seems great.

Anyway I'm glad everything is under your control again, I'm just sorry I couldn't really help, and I'm especially sorry that Amon Savag left, as this leaves me without an enemy

    Hope he will return.

Anywaym if there is anything I may do please ask, and it will be given (well unless you want my credit card numbers or anything like that)

I'll put the map in tomorrow, but you guys can go ahead and post.

BTW, considering how my schedule has worked out so far, I'll just try to do my updates on the weekends.

Again, if I overlooked anything in the update, tell me and I'll correct it ASAP.

    MAY 1881 Update

    North America

Union offensive begins! A Northern drive down the Mississippi into Arkansas and Tennessee started almost without a hitch. However, the Confederates were able to badly slow the advance by resorting to a previously unheard-of method of fighting: urban warfare. Union troops were surprised that, when they moved into a city, instead of retreating to open ground where they could "properly" do battle, the Confederates slugged it out from house to house and block to block. Traditionally, armies have triedw to avoid urban centers in fighting.

Many Mormons throughout rejoiced in celebrations of the "removal of the oppressors" from Salt Lake City. On the other hand, many Easterners were disgusted that the President has allowed the Mormons to keep their "unlawful" practice of polygamy.

    Europe/Asia Minor
In the words of a popular novelist of the times, tension in Europe is "tight as the strings of a violin." Statesmen representing the major powers (Germany, England, Russia, etc.) are all accusing each other of violating the rules of neutrality by providing military aid to nations in the Middle East and North America, despite the fact that the states they represent are often just as guilty as the ones they are accusing.

    Middle East/North Africa

The Ottoman armies, some armed with British and French weapons, have again attempted another press into Persian territory, this time with more initial success. However, some Ottoman commanders, annoyed by the constant pestering of Persian light horsemen, have ordered their troops to pursue the raiders instead of pressing towards their objectives, thus giving the main Persian forces enough time to prepare for a stubborn defense.

A Persian attempt to unify the Arabs against the Ottoman Empire has backfired, in a way. Instead of uniting the Arabs against the Ottomans, Persian propaganda has split the tribes of the Arabian Desert into pro- and anti-Ottoman factions, thus causing large amounts of bloodshed on the sands of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Berbers of French Algeria are becoming agitated by a sudden dropoff of their water supply. Already the port of Algiers itself has been attacked, though the FFL (French Foreign Legion) managed to beat back the attackers. Other minor settlements, however, have not been so lucky; many have been looted and burned. French authorities are promising to take action ASAP.

    East Asia/Orient

Russia is beginning to eye Manchuria. Japanese citizens are concerned, seeing that Manchuria is a food source for a good-sized part of the islands.

    Central/South Africa

More of the same old rough life (and death) in the jungles and on the plains of the African continent.

    South America

The Peruvian-Chilean border conflict has escalated. Peruvian troops have attacked and defeated Chilean troops in a minor engagement just north of the border.

    Australia/Oceania

The natives of the Sandwich Islands, on which a British coaling station has existed since 1868, have applied for member status within the British Empire.

    -------

    NPC Diplomacy

    From: Anti-Ottoman Arab factions
    To: Persia
Assist us in showing our errant Arab brethren the truth about the Ottomans!

    -------

    Other

-Amon Savag has quit. Therefore the Ottoman Empire is open to any takers.
-After next update (June 1881) I may switch over to 3 months/turn (unless anyone opposes this) in order to make the game go quicker. The turns will go: March, June, September, December.

P.S. Thanks for offering to help, Giovanni. I've got everything under control (in a way) now that I'm back, but I may need your help later.
