  • NANESIA Hellenic Republic of Greece

    Elliniki Dhimokratia

    Background:
Greece achieved its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1829. During the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, it gradually added neighboring islands and territories, most with Greek-speaking populations. Following the defeat of Communist rebels in 1949, Greece joined NATO in 1952. A military dictatorship, which in 1967 suspended many political liberties and forced the king to flee the country, lasted seven years. Democratic elections in 1974 and a referendum created a parliamentary republic and abolished the monarchy; Greece joined the European Community or EC in 1981 (which became the EU in 1992). In mid-2003, a campaign was launched by the Greek Military to reconquer former parts of the empire. Godspeed men!

        Wars

        Invasion of Bulgaria
Meeting unexpected resistance, the Greek Hellenic Infantry Division quickly was blooded by the fierce Bulgarian militia. However, in the end, it was the Greek flag flying over Sofia.

Losses: 1 Hellenic Infantry at 1/2 strength
        Garrison: 2

        Invasion of Macedonia
The Macendonians were quick to defend their homeland, as Greek agression and threats were common. The Greeks pushed and were within sight of the capital when they were ambushed by Macedonians and annihilated. However, this was not a complete victory for Macedonia, many Macedonians died in defense of their homeland.

        Greek Losses: 1 Hellenic Infantry
Macedonian Losses: 1 Militia, 1 Militia at 1/2 strength

        Battle for Macedonia
The 2 Hellenic Infantry Divisions took on the waiting Macedonians with 2 full-strength militia divisions and a half strength militia division. The superb Greek generals routed the Macedonians with superior tactics, many learned when fighting the Italians in World War II. Soon the battle was over and Macedonia was incorporated into Greece. (Azale, you were also very lucky. You probably would have won but you had no losses, which surprised me.)

        Losses: None
        Garrison: 2

        Bombardment of Albania
A Greek Artillery division opened up on the unsuspecting Albanian military, destroying much of their defenses and seriously hurting their defense ability.

        Albanian Losses: 1 Mechanized Infantry

        Bombardment and Invasion of Albania
The lone Albanian infantry unit was destroyed during the bombardment, clearing the way for the powerful Greek military to take over.

        Losses: None
        Garrison: 2
