        To: Germany
        From: ROSEA

We welcome and accept you offer to send the 1st Dschungel Regiment to SE Asia. Though there has yet to be anything hostile coming from India, we wish for you to send the Regiment towards the Burma-India border.

        Oil Discovered
After many months searching, prospectors have discovered oil in the Spratly islands. The location of the islands of where the oil was discovered has yet to be released, however. There are also plans for a possible permanent settlement on one of the islands, though this has yet to be confirmed. If there are plans for settlement, most believe that this could occur within the next few months.

List of Potential Captials Narrowed Down
After much debate, Parliament has eliminated Yangon, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore as potential capitals. There are thus three potential captials left: Hanoi, Saigon, and Bangkok. The issue is expected to drag on for quite a while as Parliament decides which two sites to eliminate.

        Terrorist Bomb Kills 53
A terrorist bomb went off in a large shopping mall in Bangkok today, killing 53 and wounding 148. So far, no group has claimed responsibility, though officials believe it was former-DRSEAan members that set off the bomb. No arrests have been made yet so far.

        Forest Fire in Sarawak
A forest fire believed to have originally been started in Indonesia has spread northward, encroaching areas of the Malaysian Sarawak region on Borneo. So far there has been no serious threat to settlements in Sarawak, though health warnings are already in effect in the town of Kuching on Sarawak and the city of Kuala Lumpur on the Malay Peninsula, due to the large amounts of smoke created from the forest fires.

              Terrorists Seize Panama Canal!

Terrorists of the an unknown origin have seized the Panama Canal and have threatened to disable it if their demands were not met. They demanded that the embargo on Cuba be released and that Cuba is recognized as a soveriegn nation. More demands are coming...

                OOC:
I swear that Gscott's company list is the most annoying thing to scroll past that I have ever seen. It does not add any real benefit to the thread. It's just a list. He could have posted a link.

                IC:
The United States of America shall not tolerate terrorist control of the Panama Canal. The U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt and the U.S.S. Carl Vinson and their battlegroups have put to sea for Panama. The 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions are preparing for possible action in Panama, along with a considerable amount of other forces.

The terrorists have exactly one week to surrender the canal, before we liberate it from them.

The sanctions on Cuba will not be lifted. Due to the obvious Cuban involvment in this matter, the U.S.S. George Washington and the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and their battlegroups have enacted a blockade of the island of Cuba. No vessels and no aircraft shall be permitted through.

The rebels are beginning to entrench in the region. Explosives have been placed all over the Canal to prevent an attack. (Prevent because if strikes come, they might set off the explosives too)

                      GERMANY SELLS SPAIN LEOPARD LISENCE

MADRID (Deutsche Welle) - Today in Madrid German Chancellor Lars Weber and Prime Minister Roberto Diaz of Spain signed the check from Spain to Germany for $500 million dollars. This lisence would allow Spain to produce as many Leopard 2A7s as they wished for 10 years. The lisence was severly reduced in price to show the new cooperation between Spain and Geramy. Chancellor Weber commented that he was

                        IC:
...three freighter vessels have arrived and occupied the Canal. It is unknown where these ships came from.

Um, Mao, any ships entering the canal would have to get past my carrier battlegroups...

Sinking a ship in the canal is not as bad as blowing the Gatun locks...

                          IC:
The American response was swift and bold. A combined commando assault force, composed of Rangers, SEALs, and Delta Force commandos struck in the night. Within hours, the explosives placed around and in the canal were disabled. Special care was taken to ensure the safety of the Gatun Locks.

The commando strike took the terrorists by surprise, and the surviving terrorists have fled into the surrounding region. Forces of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions have arrived to protect the canal, and the 2nd and 3rd Light Infantry Divisions are being used to flush out and eliminate the remaining terrorist forces.

On the downside, three terrorist controlled freighters, which were of Cuban registry, were sunk near the northern exit of the canal after refusing to permit American forces to board the ships for a brief search. The sunken wrecks of the ships will have to be removed, a process estimated to take two months, before traffic into the canal can resume.

The Central Intelligence Agency has found strong ties between the terrorists and the Cuban government. Due to possible corruption, the United States is pushing for new elections in Panama, and is reoccupying the Canal Zone to ensure that something like this never happens again.

OOC: Bah! Let me get something...

                            IC:

While the Canal was being raided, the terrorists damaaged the control buildings for the Canal. Most of the terrorists fled southward to an unkown destination.

Panama has also protested American occupation and has asked other Latin American nations for help in repelling them. American troops occupied the area without any negotiation.

Um, Mao, as I recall, the Canal Zone Treaty allows the Americans to reoccupy the Canal Zone in the event of an emergency, so what I am doing is entirely legal.

                              IC:
Repairs have begun on the damaged control systems. By the time the sunken ships are removed, the canal will be fully operational again.

Talks have begun with the Nicaraguan government regarding the construction of a second canal.

OOC: Bah! ...who's to decide what is an emergency?

                                IC:

The Panamanian government asks that the United States withdraw in a reasonable amount of time since the terrorists have already fled.
