  • datalink story.....

because the *#$&#(@&3#$*( forum was offline i will post it here.
what you might ask? well a story i wrote about StP i lend some names from the Exodus (one if i can recall) and if i am correct it fits right in....i hope so anyways....it is a story about the second planet in the StP Universe 'they' colonized. I have called it Promise but that can always be changed (no problem) also i made some faction names up they can be changed too or can be used...(no problem again) hope you like it I will revise it probably...the first part needs some work but lets say this is the first draft. i had a lot of 'fun' writing it so i hope someone out there has fun reading it...i will post it on SPF as soon as possible
    OK here we Go

It has been over 17 years that we first step foot on this planet.
It has been over 11 years that we found the first of the ruins
It has been over 2 years that the last person died due of the gas attacks from the Til` mar

But let me start from the beginning.

When we had to flee our original solar system and we were brought to this place. Of course we humans directly split up in to different groups and even more obvious new wars erupted. We also discovered other life on the planet. Primitive life but also with powers we at first didn’t understand. New plants and new weather conditions.

But despite all of this we thrived in this new world.

After a couple of decades we were ready to colonize space. More then before Humans wanted to conquer the world and show everything that we could live like gods. So we set sail to the next planet in this solar system. ‘The kingdom of the light’ was the first that settled and started to colonize the second planet. They called it ‘the promised planet’, most people now a days call it Promise. But the planet doesn’t give credit to the name. After them the other factions followed,… including ours. We settled and founded several bases, including the one we are standing in right now, Aleph.

After a peaceful colonization period of 5 years, this was just 7 month before the discovery of the ruins at Bar`dan Kor, there was a great gathering of factionleaders. Some how it was decided upon that on Promise would be an outlawed planet. This meant that no law or agreement was valid except domestic law. Then Promise was mostly occupied with military bases and researchlabs so civilian lives weren’t in that much danger. But because most of the less aggressive factions didn’t think a full scale war would erupt on Promise they opened up the there bases for brave new colonists.

I was 11 when we left for a new life on a new planet and it was just one month before the discovery of the ruins. I remember how exited my parents and I was. I would give almost anything to go back to that day and warn them.

Because my father was a sergeant in the internal security force, it was still called ISF back then and not the army, and my mother was a pilot of transport-jets we lived in a city right beside military base X-ray so the city was named Ray.

But that is not the story I want to tell. A month after we came to the planet the famous scout party 2035/B from the Internal defense force of the Pacific Trade Alliance discovered the ruins of Bar`dan Kor. This was the beginning of the end.

Everyone know that we were rescued by aliens and brought here by them. What everyone also know is that they didn’t want to give any of there technology to us so that we could protect ourselves. So when we found some alien ruins with possibly heaps of new technology everyone wanted a piece. Because the PTA discovery of the ruins every foreign diplomat wanted to talk to us. Of course we wanted to give the technology to our allies and our friends but some of the more radical factions we did not trust. This included the kingdom of the light and the Til` mar faction. I often wondered if we would have given them the data would that have stopped a war?

The big leaps in science we all suspected from the discovery didn’t happen. it wasn’t great opportunity we were waiting for to finally send us the place were we belonged. It wasn’t the path to the gods. If is was a path to anything it was a path to hell. They only real new technology we got out of it were those new composites that are used on the new spaceships. They are build up molecule per molecule there is nothing stronger and nothing more versatile then these materials. But I am wondering off again.

After that the pact was sign to outlaw Promise there were any big fight on the planet. There were some skirmishes between the Kingdom and Drogans and sometimes the Til` mar fought over some spring or valley. This was nothing more then fight between the scout parties. Who ever won the battle got the site and was left alone by any other group. But over the months that follow and especially after the ruins were discovered these scout parties became bigger and more heavily armed. Tensions raised between the Til`mar and the Kingdom.

We all felt the growing threat in our little city Ray. Camp X-ray got expanded and it was always busy. I was 13 and soon to go to a new school. I cant remember when it was exactly but ones I heard my mother talk to my father about her job and that she was getting an military escort along when she had to fly here passenger-jet. I didn’t cared about anything back then I was just happy to see the news movies in the holotheatre.

It was on a Wednesday morning when I woke up and turned on holoscreen. I was very sleepy because stayed up to long the night before, my parents weren’t home the entire week and I learn very young how to take care of myself, so I didn’t take any notice of what was happening on the screen. The only thing I saw before I went of to school was some fire and a lot of smoke.

It was the beginning of a 5 year war between the kingdom of the light and the Til` mar. The problem was that between those 2 regions lay the small region of Drogan. The Drogan faction has never been a significant faction. But there citizens are wealthy because it is a trade faction. The Drogan and the PTA have always been good allies of each other, we are sort of the big brother of Drogan. So when Til` mar forces started to raid Drogan settlements we had to help them out.

The Til` mar were already enraged with us not giving them the secrets of Bar`dan Kor but when know we dared to interfere with a domestic problem? Because they didn’t had the personnel available to launch an ground attack against us they used chemical weapons. The result was that 23 of the 31 settlements were successfully attack by chemical warheads launched from spaceships in orbit. This caused the death of 46.000 PTA civilians and 7.000 military personnel. Because Til`mar and Kingdom of the light spaceships were fighting in high orbit over Promise there wasn’t any change of help from home. After that ground forces started to claim large portions of PTA territory. Because the government on Promise was wiped out by the gas attacks no resisted could be organized. The next 5 years a hand full of survivors fought a guerilla war against enemy forces. Barely 4 years ago the PTA and Drogan Armada finished off the space defenses of the Til`mar who then practical ruled the entire planet.

Soon after the shocktroops landed near Aleph and Ray to help several suppressed guerilla troops. I was part of one of those groups. After 5 years of war I could finally rest. My parents were lost in the first month of the war. Ray was burned down 5 months after that by ‘cleaning’ pacts of the Til`mar. And Aleph fell a week after that.
Today a unconditional surrender of Til`mar Colonial troops was ordered. And the mistake of 12 years ago was erased by declaring that Promise is part of the commonwealth of Human planets which now has 5 different planets in it. and soon a 6de one will be settled as well.

    I will leave this planet.

I will leave my memories of it here

I will leave my old life here

And I will walk towards a new beginning.

It sounds great! I think it's a good idea to make the game a story told by a person. Like in Final Fantasy 10. There should be a single player mode that follows that story, which also explains the game when you start. Some sort of tutorial (only at first). Like in Warcraft 3.

On its own, the story is an interesting read ^_^

In the context of the game, it provides viable background for pre-made factions in a multiple star system game scope. The story would work well for one star system too, however, especially in scenario/compaign styles.

Generally, the story fits with the general context of my story outlines. Specifically, it fits the struggle of humans on alien worlds section of the epic concept. I commend you for your creativeness DBTS

Now for the flip side, not dealing with grammatic errors, I have something to say about the length and content of the story.

For a datalink piece of personal recollection from one of the inhabitants, it seemed slightly long, unless this was intended to be used for a tutorial game as per Michiel's suggestion or as a prelude/intro to specific scenarios (in the latter case, you'll need more details for the players as well as scenario setups).

If this was used to provide a background to explain the emergence of some factions, it seems too focused on the indiviual, unless the narrator later become an influencial one either in the story world or to the human players (faction leader, administrative leader/hero/talent advisor, etc.)

My thoughts are not all that clear to me at this moment, so I'll talk more about it perhaps later (can't think straight...)

Nevertheless, keep up the good work DBTS. If you have questions about The Exodus and related concepts, feel free to contact me via email at gateway103(at)hotmail.com.

        For now, happy writing

gateway thanks for your views on my story...it is the first story i wrote for StP i just posted right away so that would explain the grammar errors (i hope ). It was just a story i wanted to tell if changed it could be used for an scenario or a campaign thingy. I used the idea of only one solar system only because i like that concept more for the game....so again tanx for your comments and be sure I will use them....in this story and ones that follows...

second draft! as always let me hear what you think....mostly removed typos and stuff....

It has been over 17 years that we first set foot on this planet.
It has been over 11 years that we found the first of the ruins
It has been over 2 years that the last person died due to the gas attacks from the Til`mar

But let me start from the beginning.

When we had to flee our original solar system we were saved by an alien race and brought to this place. We didn’t had enough food and shelter. But with some help of the aliens we got our first self supporting base operational. Because we landed on different parts of the planet new groups formed. Some of the old one from earth were founded again but also new ones saw the light of day. But we humans are a difficult race to handle and the new factions could get along and obviously new wars erupted. One of the other problems we encountered was the discovery of other life on the planet. It was primitive life. But strong and also with powers we at first didn’t understand. New plants, new oceans and new weather conditions.

But despite all our problems we thrived in this new world.

After a couple of decades of war and development we were ready to colonize space. More then before Humans wanted to conquer the world and show everything that we could be like gods. So we set sail to the next planet in this solar system. ‘The kingdom of the light’ was the first that settled and started to colonize the second planet. They called it ‘the promised planet’. It was a planet that was in some way similar to old earth and many people taught this would be the first of many new conquests. most people nowadays call the planet ‘Promise’. But the planet doesn’t give credit to the name. After the kingdom some other factions followed,… including ours. We settled and founded several bases, including the one we are standing in right now, Aleph.

After a peaceful colonization period of 5 years, just 17 month before the discovery of the ruins at Bar`dan Kor, there was a great gathering of factionleaders. Because my father was a sergeant in the internal security force, it was still called ISF back then and not the LTF (Liberation TaskForce), and my mother was a pilot of transport-jets we lived in a city right beside military base X-Ray. Because human creativity not always is at it best on a new planet they called the city ‘Ray’.

But that is not the story I want to tell. 11 month after we arrived the famous scout party 2035-B from the Internal defense force of the Pacific Trade Alliance discovered the ruins of Bar`dan Kor. The news of aliens structures somewhere in a desert shocked every faction. This was the beginning of the end.

Everyone knows that we were rescued by aliens and brought here by them. What everyone also knows is that they didn’t want to give any of there technology so that we could protect ourselves against the Drazan aliens. So when we found some alien ruin with the possibly of new technology everyone wanted a piece of the cake. Because it was PTA discovery our friends became more friendly and our enemies became more enraged. Of course we wanted to give the technology to our allies and our friends. Our councel then decided that some of the more radical factions we did not trust would not receive and data gathered from the ruin. This included the kingdom of the light and the Til` mar faction. They officially cut all diplomatic relationships with us.
I often wondered if we would have given them the data would that have stopped a war?

The big leaps in science we all suspected from the discovery didn’t happen. it wasn’t great opportunity we were waiting for to finally send us the place were we belonged. The Til`mar were already enraged with us because we didn’t gave them the secrets of Bar`dan Kor but when we dared to interfere with a domestic problem it was war. Because all of their personnel was busy fighting the kingdom paladins and Drogan police forces they used a different tactic with us.
