The scenario is about a hypothetical attack by the USSR in 1950, after Germany's surprise capitulation in 1944.
The stage is for a superpower clash between the USA, it's NATO Allies and the WARPAC powers.

    The civs will be...
The United States (NATO) - playable
The European Alliance (NATO) - playable
    The USSR (WARPAC) - playable
The Communist Allies (WARPAC) - playable
The Chinese People's Republic - playable
The Rouge States - not for play
The Neutral States - not for play

Units will range from high-end WW2 armaments, to 1960s weapons.

As the NATO- The goal is to derail Stalin's un-provoked attack and rescue the free world!
As WARPAC- The goal is to crush the capitalist oppressors and spread the red, worldwide!

WARPAC or NATO Allies must help their leading nation succeed!
Rouge States will spread mayhem, they must be tamed evetually
Neutral States will stay out of it...but might be targeted by Stalin!

My first task is to prepare the map for the civs, and 'Russify' some of the city names...

It will also have to set out the map as if it has been split between East and West for 6 years...

      In spring 1950,
The USSR is the launcher of the attack, and the Euro Allies are the first to feel the brunt...
The USA must act fast to hold off the red tide or they face being swept off the continent...

And unlike the current era, all European powers are united to stop the threat to Europe's new post WW2 freedom.

The USA is ready to challenge Stalin, but the free powers face a powerful and deadly foe...
One who will stop at nothing but total conquest!

Here is a mega-early take on the units, no doubt that these will change very much as things develop...

I have a new mig15, F4 Phantom, B37 and Tupolev bomber and various others to add...

It is a matter of pasting them into the right slots, my task after the map edits.

Can anyone give an appropriate list of tanks for East and West?

I was thinking of the M48 and T55?

I know what the UK and Germany would use...

T55 was first used in Hungary in 1955.. or something like that if i remeber correctly.

            BTW, those units look great!

                What's the backstory?

NATO, with the exception of the UK, should use Shermans. For the Warsaw Pact, T-34/85s with a few JS-IIIs should suffice.

Also, I'm curious about the story too. If Germany has surrendered, why do there appear to be German tanks and planes in the units.gif?

And on a related topic, what happened to all the Nazi's military hardware after the war?

I would start out being able to build M-24's and later M-48's but start the scenario with mostly shermans and maybe a few scattered M-24's. Do you want this to go into hypothetical units too?

Depends what date the conflict is supposed to last to.

I am assuming that they are probably either captured tanks like the French used post WWII, or that the German army still exists intact after their capitulation and helps fight the commie hords.

And on a related topic, what happened to all the Nazi's military hardware after the war?
A lot of it was used by different nations armies. France and a lot of the former axis allies used German armour. I am not sure which ones, but I remember reading that some nations continued using bf-109's after the end. Argentina actually built their modern jet (1950's) force based on a German design, the Ta-183 I believe.

                      Howdy, chaps.

Firstly, keep in mind that this is a hypothetical WW3 scenario.
And also I am keeping my options open for a 7th civ, perhaps China...

                      Synopsis:
After the successful assassination of Hitler in July 1944, Germany was flung into revolution headed by the Army to break the power of the SS.
The rebellious General Corps, led by Erwin Rommel of the German Panzerwaffe, took control of Berlin and called for an immediate surrender.
Germany was put under swift Allied protection by the UK and USA, and the other Allied powers.
Warfare in the Eastern front fizzled out. Work on increasing Germany's defences began immediately.

The duration of the war had seen the Russian dictator transform from the genial 'Uncle Joe' to a nightmare figure of tyranny and oppression...
Being excluded from the post-war deals of the Allies and Germany, the USSR was immediately belligerent.
A furious Stalin felt cheated by the Western Allies. Secretly, he planned vengeance and to finish the work of the Soviet Revolution.
This entailed domination of the European continent under the baleful 'Communist Democratic peace'...War against the Allied powers...

Obviously this threat must be challenged.

Hence, why Germany and neighbouring Poland have became the focus of a massive military build-up between the two power blocs...

Incidents of note from 1944 to 1950...
1944: German capitulation and formal armistice with Allies.
1945: Russian and Allied fortifications spring up across Polish/German border.
1946: The disbanded Wehrmacht was reformed as the much-reduced and democratically-oathed Landswehr,
1946: The guilty parties and nazis were dealt with by the noose, the SS and other villians being arrested or vanishing.
1947: Rommel joined the other leaders in Europe in turning Germany into a vast bulwark against the growing hostility of the USSR and Stalin.
1947: The USA has pledged to go to war in defence of Europe's liberty, the UK and other European powers have agreed to defend too.
1947: The state of Israel was formed and immediately was under pressure from hostile neighbours...
1948: The Nations of Europe are banded together in an alliance of mutual defence, headed and in many cases supplied by the USA.
1948: German weaponry and cooperation to share it has led to some breakthroughs in Allied war technology.
1948: With allied production assistance, the Germans are maintaining their reputation for armoured excellence. In Allied service.
1948: Most other world nations are trying to profit out of the post-war world...China remains unalligned.
1948: Treaty between the USA, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Finalnd, Norway Italy, Spain and the other European nations...The NATO accord.
1948: The Soviets have been sliding to a war footing in the last year, Stalin becoming ever more baleful and threatening in his speeches…
1948: Many believe the USSR is merely sabre-rattling, others think Stalin has his eyes on Western Europe.
1949: The USSR and the Soviet satellite states combine to form the Warsaw Pact, or WARPAC.
1949: The state of Russian military preparedness is known to be formidable. Growing worldwide concern at Stalin's intentions.
1949: The communications between East and West have diminished to a standstill in the last few weeks of 1949.
1950: In the US and Europe, Russian Diplomats return to the USSR...
1950: Stalin Makes pledge to assure Russian hegemony, Now the world is again on the brink of war...

Many tales abound of a new Russian aircraft, jet-powered, and more than a match for any allied fighter...

Also the USA is unsure of the Russian nuclear programme, a dangerous and unknown quantity...

There are sure to be many surprises in any upcoming war...

I think I will be using China as the 7th civ now, makes a good challenge...

And a seriously nasty situation if they team up with the USSR...

Also all people are welcome to suggest events, wonders and units you'd like to see used.

Historical accuracy is not paramount as some weapon designs are rushed forward a bit to have them take part in this battle...
