need to hack .sav files

I´m trying to write some utilities for civ2, but I'm stuck understanding the .sav encoding. Can anybody give me some hint?

hex-editing bible. It seems to be just was I was
looking for.

Thank you for the offer, yaroslav, but I wanna give
it a try by myself at first.

And don't worry, there is no technology being developed
for questionable purposes... I am a strong defender of
fair play..

I just want to write some utilities to get quicker
information. I tried CivManager, but it doesn't work,
since I seem to have a too old version of Civ2. Besides,
I was afraid I could not sleep again till I understand this
SAV files...
