  • The Revolution is near!

Red October is almost ready for release. It runs from the October revolution (which was in November ) until the end of 1921, covering all major historical events from the Bolshevik seizure of power in Petrograd and Moscow to the Kronstadt revolt of 1921. It has an intro movie which plays when the scenario is loaded: http://cullivan.com/civ/scenarios/re...r/redsound.mpg

Thanks to Paul Cullivan (Kull) for his help in converting and posting the movie.

I got an error message: "Invalid syntax (Error=800401E4)" I will try again to see if it still happens later.

Jimmywax, it should play if you have the standard Windows Media Player. Here's a link to their download site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ad/default.asp

There's quite a bit of video footage on the net, if you search for it. Anything in MPEG or AVI format can be used, if converted to the correct AVI format. I use VideoWave III, which is out of date, but works fine for my purposes. As an alternative, you can download VideoDub, which is freeware, although it doesn't allow you to add titles.

ToT compatible format is as follows:

Audio: PCM, 22,050 Hz 8-bit (stereo or mono)
Video: AVI format, 24-bit Indeo Video 5

I use a small screen 320X250 to save space, and also cut every 2nd frame (or more!) to reduce file size. Normal speed is about 15 frames/sec. These files are huge - this movie is 13.66 seconds long and is 3.9MB in size.

If you want to rip a DVD (not that I would recommend such a thing) follow the instructions here: http://www.pocketmovies.net/dvdrip.php

You'll need to download two programs, one to rip the DVD files, and another to convert them to MPEG. Videowave or Virtual Dub can then convert them into ToT compatible AVI files.

This is a painstaking process, but it's fun and not too hard once you get the hang of it.
