Yes, the platform is going to be MGE designed with PBEM in mind. Note that if you pick a certain battle or something (like Pirates) where you CAN'T do PBEM, then it'll still be accepted. However, I think there's a wide enough range of wars, battles, stories, to go around for some excellent PBEM scenarios.

Also, as of now, the timeframe has been expanded from 1500 AD to 1801 AD. That's as far as i'm expanding it. Any more and you REALLY move out of the AoS era.

I am, right now, putting together the official rules, useful links, a set of maps and other stuff for the contest which will be posted by either Friday or Saturday. On the weekend i'll be able to HTML'ize it all and put it on a website for easy reference.

If there are any skilled map makers, or people who have a nice hidden collection of maps.......I am looking for a map of a very specific region of Europe. None of the maps I've found on poly or CivFan are ideal. Alternatively, if there's anyone who knows how to get those utillites that claim to be able to slice out a certain part of map to work, that would be fine too.

Mercator's site at http://gene.wins.uva.nl/~jvermeir/civ2/ is good, though it seems to not be working at the moment

I thought the platform would not be specified as long as it was PBEM compatible? I don't use MGE, I use ToT.

AS somebody has said before, I believe that you shouldnt close the contest to PBEM only, because your are making smaller the posibilities as other kind of amphibious scenarios (per example Nemos SEcond Front couldnt participate because it cannot be played as PBEM), I believe that the better choice would be Multiplayer (this one are usually good for PBEM) and not Multiplayer

I'm going to try to make a scenario for the contest. So far I only made a map and a really simple WWII scenario, but since I figured out how to change the gifs I should be able to produce a resoaneble scenario. I already have an idea and a homemade map I can use. And with all you experienced guys around getting a little help shouldn't be to difficult.

                      Good luck to you all

Hopefully the Scenario League's Design Tips might be of help too.

Has someone done a discussion paper on the essential elements of scenario design for PBEM vs traditional single player games?

No, but I was planning on doing one...

Techumseh, you sure you can't do that on an MGE platform? It's much more common than ToT is and much more compatible to the PBEM genre. Besides that, ToT is chock full of bugs...

                                War Void,

I think it would be a great to produce such a paper, and CivFanatics I'm sure would be happy to host it (seeing we've seemingly continued to have no joy with the people overseeing the server that hosts the League's site).

ToT is full of bugs? Well ... a few.

(Unfortunately) I skipped MGE, and went from FW to TOT too Techumseh.

Echoing my earlier position - a great initiative, and I hope this contest will be a success.
