  • custom map question

I recently purchased TOT, and love it. It is the first civ game have purchased.
I figured out that custom maps need to be made with the cheats menu (unlike previous versions which have a seperate editor (which I do not own).
I have also figured out that custom scenarios (at least the ones with art (lord of the rings is the one I tried)) due to version differences (?).
The gold edition is pretty cheap ($29.95) and seems to have a bunch of cool scenarios.

    My questions are

    1. Will it work with the scenarios on the net, or are there version differences?

    2. Is the external map editor included.

    3. Is the extra stuff worth it/cool?

    Thanx

    1) I have never had a problem playing scenarios.

    2) It is an external map editor, to the point that you cannot access the map editor while your are playing.

    3) I sure think it's worth thirty bucks. If you were to divide the total cost by the number of hours I have spent playing the game or developing scenarios, I think that my total cost of ownership would be about 5 cents/hour!

Yup, it's Eddie popping in to give relative newbies a history lesson...

      Version 2.42 - Only 2.42 scenarios.
Conflicts in Civilization - Doesn't count
Fantastic Worlds - Either 1.42, CiC, or FW scens.
Multiplayer Gold Edition - 1.42, CiC, FW, or MGE scens
Test of Time - Only TOT

Get MGE. The CIC scens that come with it bite total a$$, but you can play any scens on the net that your machine can handle. And BTW, stay away from CTP. And NEVER USE THE FW EDITORS, and just d/l a map off the net, there's a map for every part of the world on here. Besides, it takes forever to make good map.

Friendly advice from a long-time civer...

Found it at wal mart for $19.96 . Thanx. Wow, I can see the difference in the graphics that everybody is talking about. A lot clearer, but I think the new graphics are definately a step foreward.
