  • I need a palette

Could someone please, please, pretty please send me a gif of the civ 2 palatte? I'm using Adobe Photoshop 3.0 and the only way I can think of to be able to save modpack gifs in the correct palette is go get a gif with with all of Civ 2's colors (and ONLY civ 2's colors)and save it's palette for use on other pictures.

Or if anyone has any better idea or method, do tell!

So again, what I want is a gif with every single civ 2 color, or an easier idea.

This thread was also raised in the 'help' forum, where it has been addressed I hope.

      Mr. Mouse -

Why don't you just grab a screen shot of the palette? In your graphics application, open a legit Civ2 graphics file, then open the color palette. Press which will put the primary window into your buffer. Open a new file, paste it in. Voila!

Good luck - you will find that the Civ2 palette is much more limited that it appears. Many of the colors are derived through dithering. There are very few "pure" reds, for instance.

        OOOPS!

To move a window into your RAM buffer, press "Alt" and "PrintScrn" simultaneously. In my original posting, I used angle brackets around the key names, causing them to be dropped from the message text! Alt-PrintScrn is a very handy trick to capture screen shots. Good luck!

I don't think the screen print method will work. Use the units.gif or cities.gif to create the palette in Photoshop. Those are the ones I've used.

To Cam, sorry about posting this in two places.

To others, the problem is I don't have the Civ 2 palette. Maybe someone could send me a *.pal file from PSP? I have gotten a few screen shots from people and a list of the numbers of all the colors from Cam. I tried one possibility out the other day, but it didn't work. I still have a few things I want to try when I get time. I'll let you know if I get it to work.

The palette is included in any gif file. Just open any of the original files (units.gif, terrain.gif etc.) If you don't have any undamaged file, download one with a mod pack. Choose "edit palette" (or something like) in photoshop and then save the palette. Now you can load it into any other gif file.
NOTE: ALL gifs you use in a Civ2 game MUST have the same palette!
