  • Can we fix civ 3?

I'm sure anyone whos played Civ 3 has noticed that it just....isn't as much fun as Civ 2 was. We can blame it on the horrible corruption settings....the not so great military features....or whatever we want. But the question I'm asking is....can we fix it?

I would answer no. But I'm curious as to what others who post here think.

I voted no. I don't have it but from what I've heard in the civ3 forums it doesn't really look to be an easy task, nor does it seem as if everything is easily accessible.
Most of the Mods/changes, Icedans and otherwise, just seem to focus on basic graphics and such. Vels mod may hold some promise but it may also be overly ambitious.

Firaxis OTOH could probably "fix" it if they put their minds to it. Of course we wouldn't know about it until after the fact (and maybe not even then).

I put 'maybe, with a better editor', because I think if it did get the things we asked for in our open letter, it could be used to make some very interesting scenarios. The problem is, I don't think they'll do it.

BTW, it didn't take you very long to come to the same conclusion as many of the rest of us. What, a couple of games?

        In a word: No.

We can't do anything at the moment.

Infogrames is as greedy as they come and if it were up to Firaxis, we might see what we asked for in a patch. As it looks right now, they were given the green light to fix all the major bugs in one patch and one patch only.

Anything else is probably considered by inf. to be "needless extras and wastes of productivity."

So *if* we see multiplayer and scenario creation, it will no doubt be in a "gold edition" which you will have the privelege of buying for $50, and it will include two disks. The original civ3 disk and a new disk with about an 80MB patch on it and maybe one or two really crappy scenarios.

it took me about an hour and a half to decide the game was a tragic loss. i ran into a couple bugs and i had the horrifying experience of not finding any scenarios. civ3 is still on my hardrive, but its just taking up space

everything other than NO is just silly if questions. we'd have to rely on firaxis to do that for us, and what are the odds they'll get it right? judging by the "scenario support" of civ3, i'd say not well at all.

I found the Standard game inCiv3 much, much more enjoyable and ffun than Civ2's Standard game, but I'm more of a scenario person, not a Standard game person, so I don't play Civ3 very often. So, somewhat optimistically, I voted for Yes and With a Better Editor.

I can afford to be optimistic because my life now revolves around EUII

Hmmm....I think I agree with Darthveda completely. Is there any hope from the Master of Orion 3 horizon? Or are there better games out there? Whats this EUII?

I went to the shops to buy that game yesterday, only to find that it costs $110! I think that I'll wait a while for it

I shouldn't even be thinking about this at the moment but you mean its actually in the country???!!! I've been searching for it for ages.
You wouldn't have happened to be looking in an EB outlet by any chance would you? My local EB just got in what looks to be an Asia/Pac version of the original EU. Nice but not exactly what I wanted...

And I don't want to get plonked by St Leo

I saw it in a shop called Bitstorm on the bottom floor of the Canberra Centre.
It was definetly EU2, as a copy of EU1 was sitting next to it in a completly differnt box (with a much lower price sticker attached ). Bitstorm does order games in from overseas, so perhaps they had ordered it for someone who never turned up to actually buy it

                      It sure looked good though

Just make sure you get patch 1.02b, since it fixes a few things.

$110 for a computer game? I think not.

Unfortunately, with the exchange rate being what it is, that is pretty typical for Aus/NZ at the moment. Average is about $80 to $100...

I meant, I think I will not buy it

General note - because civ III is complete trash I declare myself completely over civ. I don't have the heart to find my civ 2 disk, and I don't have the stupidity to play civ III or call to power or anything like that. No more civ means no more computer games....so this is probaby the last post I'll make for some time. I'll stop logon every once in awhile to see whats happening....but until then, adios.
