  • Question about railroads

Is there any way that you can make a unit stay on the railroads? I was looking at Alex's and tecumseh's Russian Civil War scenarios and both use armoured trains and rail cars. Neither one was able to accomplish this though.

If this is impossible to do then I thought that maybe ya could rename the airport to railroad station. Then change the text to read that a train was destroy enroute to its destination. Then again there would be the problem with an airports effects on the plane units in that city.

The AI's pathing algorithm doesn't work with roads or railroads. Essentially, unless you RR every square, they're very stupid. Thus, there is no way to keep them on other then making it either impossible to get off, or very unattractive to do so.
    I refute it thus!

The only way is to use water as a railroad and have a "train" unit as a transport... the AI is pretty dumb in their use though.

            Doesn't look like a solution

It is an idea Darth, I just don't know if I will use it. I will play around with it and see what I think.

There is a solution, which you will see in Mike Daumens' Russian Civil War scenario and my Warlords of China scenario (if it's ever finished). It requires Test of Time. You simply put all railroads on one or two types of terrain. You give all other types of terrain the 'impassible' flag, and voila, the trains stay on the tracks!

I look foward to seeing it, but alas I do not have ToT anymore. I just didn't like the feel of it for some reason. Maybe I will buy it again to try it a second time.

I forgot one part: you give all units except the rail units the "override impassible terrain" flag.

You and the Anzac should already know, but I ask that you refrain from telling anybody just yet. I am not ready to reveal myself to the outside world. When I am closer to being finished I will unveil my creation to the world and you all will bow down before me. Muh-wa ha ha ha !!!

I'm sorry was that over the top? I can never tell.

Wow, I've never heard of someone using Civ 2 to prove that they're the messiah before! I guess you've got your disiples working on it at your fortified compound in Montana?

p.s. I'm 99% sure I know what you're working on, I just wanted to make you say it

It is not really a compound persay, it is really more of a collective commune of like minded sociopaths.
