  • Flags of the World

    Hello guys,

I came across this website while tearing through the 'net today. It has A TON of great stuff. Flags from way back, just 'save pictures as...'
They are too lage to put directly into a Civ game, but great for title.gifs and just finding out what a particular flag looked like.

    Enjoy!

I was once on their mailing list. If anybody wants to join, please be sure that you are seriously interested in flags, and that you have your sources; there are more than 60 mails per day, some added with flag pics.
Interesting, but more than three quarters of all those mails I got were unread; particuarily deadly if you're away for a week.

It is a wonderful site though.

It is geopolitics that has come alive and is played through the eyes of players controlling real-life nations. The time is 1 day = 2 weeks, or 2 days = 1 month, and right now we are in 2005. The Second Korean War just ended. I play as Ukraine, and have made it into what some call the "Germany of Eastern Europe" with reforms and what not. There are several good nations open, such as Spain even I believe. If you want to try it out just post there and say something like you want to try it out. Its as if Civ2 has come alive in the modern time period. St. Leo, actually, has experience...

On a more related note, those are unique flags made by WarVoid and Scott and from the All Flags file. They fit in with the Civilization 2 icons, I believe.

(though, my problem is, that on the Mars scenario I'll need to make up flags )

            GEOPOLITICS RULE!!!

            *regains composure* ahem...

Yeah, me and Scott made those flags based on Civ2 style. So you can basically copy and paste them directly to Civ2 if you wanted. Right now they are in gif format with a transparent background.

No, no. It is a forum-based game, so everything you do is a post. Like, if you want to post a "news post" that Ukraine is going to be reducing the costs of uranium, then you write a paragraph explaining it involving who, what, when, where, why, how, etc. And you also have orders of battles for nations, so they create their armed forces like that with the different equipment they need. And then when a war happens involving your nation, you'll get to use your armed forces. Its hard to explain to a total "newbie" so if you go post there asking questions, people will answer.

I was? I mean, I was! And S&D was a very important part of my life. Now if only I could remember what it was.

techumseh, it's like Civ2 but based on a forum in a real-world sitiu. People pick a nation (one person per nation) and play as that nation, posting news, responses, updates, military stats, battles, etc. in character (IC) as that respective nation. Very exciting and i've been doing it for about a year and a half now.

Almost (if not more) addictive than Civ2 itself!!!

How does one decide wars? I can see opportunity for the old fashoned "BANG, I got ya!"...."No you didn't...BANG BANG BANG"

Is it based on sheer numbers? Are the weapons given stats like in Civ? Say, like a Leopard tank vs an Abrams... Or 500 vs 500...how would you decide victories?

                            -Chris Szabla

decide wars. They don't do a good job, and they usually just post casualties.

On second thought, its not that great a game, and will waste your time. That's mainly why I just left the game.
