  • Imperialism stuff

I have zipped up two files: One with the Great War scenario, another with some stuff that shall prove useful when making/editing a scenario (including the mentioned executables that make editable base-ten texts). If you want either of these, please specify which or both and post email address below.

LET US NOT LET IMPERIALISM DIE!

The world is a better place with games like Imperialism around. Does anyone know if an I3 is on the way?

Eternal, great files, very fun. I found out how to make war when starting the scenario:

                trea, , 00=Part of Country ,02=Alliance, 03=Non-Agression Pact, 05=Empire, 06=War

I changed you scenario slightly to add the different wars going on, and now it's really fun to play.

It's a shame that you took the map where Holland and Belgium are united. That way you can't simulate the neutrality of Holland.

Now the only challenge that's left and hasn't been done yet is to make a map. For example America, or Africa (a part of it, what fits the map). I also saw a c source code for a map-compiling program, but there was no exe file.

Oh last thing, the document impscen.doc doesn't know what "flag" is for. well, "flag" is for the number X in the pictwvX.gob file to be used for all countries’ flags. For the rest, excellent research.

Any luck cracking the *.rsrc files? I am literally drooling over them.

no luck so far. They seem to built out of a different structure than the usual resource files, but I might be wrong, knowing no programming stuff. I think that they deliberately changed the structure.

It's annoying anyway, otherwise it would be great fun to copy pictures from imp2 to 1 (even though imp1 has a limited palette). It is possible however, to copy icons, cursors (handy for battle cursors, etc.) from the imperialism2.exe file to the imperialism1.exe file using the same program.
Imp2 seems to use 16bit colors or better, while imp1 has a palette, as in civ2. Copying anything to imp1 means loss of quality.

                      Allard:
Thanks for the help and the accolades, but most of it belongs to my brother, as he is the better progammer. I'm going to ask him if I can give you his Email so maybe you to can have a better discourse on the matter.

The C source file is hardly started. I just included it in case anyone might want to look at it and start working on it.

From the looks of the way SSI set up this game, it is apparent they never wanted anyone to make scenarios or anything. Apparently they hadn't heard how important flexibility is for games. I bet Imperialism I and II would be even now amazingly popular if they just included some scenario/map/game editors.

Frog City is working on two unrelated games.
