You take Latin too Prometeus? Hey I was wondering here in America, us ignorants don't know how to pronounce Latin. My dad is an Italian by blood, being born there and he says he learned Latin the correct way. Anyway he learned that "C"s in Latin were soft (like in the word Cheese) in front of i, e, and ae, but hard (like Cat) in front of a and o. In America it's always hard. So, how have you learned your "C"s?

Regarding the pronunciation of "c", I have been taught at school that it is always pronounced as "k", but only 30 years ago, they used to pronounce it all as "s" on schools, so apparently there's been a change in the way people think it was pronounced. Same for the "ae" sound. Nowadays we say "ai", 30 years ago "ey".
Take for example Caesar. Now we say: "Kaisar", before it was "Seysar" (still not as in english "Sisar".

I doubt however that they taught us the correct pronunciation anyway, not only because simply nobody knows how it was really pronounced, but also cause we have been taught awful ways to pronounce Ancient Greek, which are totally false.

Also, it's hard like cat in front of u and soft in front of oe ( the sound went between o and e; too bad i can't perform here the Latin font character i have for it on KEYB )... wait a minute, i totally forgot about that, but when you have a dieresis on ae or oe ( indeed, first characters here are a or o ), it's always hard.

BTW i learned my italian "c"s by saying "cuccia", "coccia", "caccia", "ciccia" and "cece" about a million times... same sound as latin... Do you want to exercise? Have fun!!!
