  • Damn....I'm asking for help again...

alright. here's the problem. I'm trying to figure out just what flags the Normans and Natives in Ireland flew around 1300 AD. It's not very important to the scenario I'm working on, but I'd very much appreciate it if anybody had a link to a flag or something that I could use for it!

    Thanks in advance!

A black raven was widely used by the Vikings either on red or blue ground. I however do not know if they were still used in 1300 or later.

Fast Eddie - I have a hardcopy of some flags from that time period. I'll try to discribe some of it... some is taken from the Libro del Conosmiento dated 1374.

The flag of Knut LÃ¥nge 1230 was a verticle rectangle with seven bars in similar colors to Sweden's today. The 1,3,5, and 7 bars are blue, 2 $ 6 are gold and the middle one is white.

It also mentions the flag of Ã…land as being eight bars of alternating gold and purple and is tapered like a civ unit shield.

Suevia lists as a Gold field with two standing red lions facing each other.

And Gotland has a blue field with three ascending diagonal bars and a royal lion in gold similar to the Folkinga dynasty arms.

The Danish white cross on a red field was aleady in use in the 13th century.

      Glad midsommer!

I'm not sure why they would be using Scandinavian flags in Ireland. Just because they're normans? (now where's that puzzled face...COMPLETELY RHETORICAL QUESTION)

I guess I'll just go and use this flag of Ulster I found, even though it's not really used for every county.

          Right then! Off you go.

It was Hendrik's fault - he mentioned Vikings...

My next post will be on Sax and Violins on TV.

Do you know this flag site:

I can't wait to see that one!!!

anyway....yeah, I went there and then took a link to some Irish Flags page where they had an image of a flag for the Ulster county (and I know the Normans took Ulster right before my scenario begins). It was pretty easy to do.

Hey! Thas was only because they used to own the place for quite some while.
And Normans are Vikings depending on how you look at it...

yeah....but if all the vikings had different flags at the time then there's not much chance the Normans in ireland were using the same one.

Vikings flags on Ireland? I can tell you something only about the Icelandmen's flag at Clontarf - the Odhinn black raven on white basis ... but it's not 1300's stuff!
