  • Indigineous people of Canada

I was just happily working on my new scenario when I came across a small problem I had not thought of before.
I need to know who lived around the Great Lakes region and North East Canada between 800 and 1100 AD. Which tribes were there? Where exactly did they live? Which one was the most important/powerfull?
Does anyone know some websites about this?

I do know about the Inuit whi lived far in the North. But I need to know about mainland Canada as stated above.

The Hurons lived in the northern great lakes regions. Mainly above lake Ontario.

The Ottawa live just north of lake Huron.

    The Potawatomi controlled modern-day Michigan.

The Nipissing lived in-between the Hurons and Ottawa.

The Tobacco or Neutral Indians lived around the Toronto areaabove lake Erie.

And my favorites, the Iroquois Confederation controlled all of modern-day New York state. Plus, they controlled the Tuscarora way down in Virginia.

The Ojibway lived in the Thunder Bay region.

The Cree lived just east of Lake Winnipeg.

    The Beothuk lived in Newfoundland.

The Montagnais controlled southern Labrador while the Naskapi controlled the north.

    I hope this helps.

The Mohicans lived in today's New York State, and the Seneca lived north of Lake Suprerior.
The Assiniboin in today's Manitoba, the Blackfoot in Alberta, and in British Columbia the Kwakiutl and the Nootka.
The Mandan lived in the American part of Lk. Suprerior (the tip on the west side).

The 3 biggest groups east-to-west were the Micmac (Maritimes), Ojibwa (West Ontario/ Manitoba), and Cree (Sask./Alberta).

Iroqouis included the Seneca and Mohicans (I think just a bastardized version of Mohawks).
