  • New Star Trek Scenario from SLeague... (Question about design)

Anyone play this? I got it and the combats are strange. All the units seem to act like missiles, not that they get destroyed after attacking, but they only strike the enemy once and they either win or lose. It's as if the designer had "simple combat" checked. Is there any way to get it "unchecked"?

Yeah I had the same though so I opened the units files to find that the genius had made most of the starships hit points and firepower equal, so yes it is effectively simplicfied combat the only way to chnge this is by editing the untis or the rules.txt file
Btw what did think of the scenario (I thought it was total toss myself)

Well, I've seen better...and I've seen worse...this was the author's first work IIRC so we shouldn't be too critical, better than I could do (if I had time ) The production is waaaaaaaay too high, I mean, c'mon, one turn to churn out a borg cube or whatever?

        Bumpity bump bump...

Anyone know how to "uncheck" the simplified combat thingy in the middle of a game? Or just in a scenario?

You should just be able to unckeck it in the options menu. Can't remember.

Well, though the scenario itself isn't that good, the art and sounds are great. I have done some searching to find star trek art for civ but in this scenario there are a lot of things I've never seen before. Very neat.

              Mao,
I think you can only set the simplified combat flag off by hex editing. It's one of those start up parameters, and you can't change those once the game starts.

If you want to try hex editing, the location is specified in Allard's "Everything About Hex Editing" thread in this forum.

Personally, I thought that this particular scenario was poor. It had few units (Federation could build Galaxy class and Intrepid class ships, and that was all the warships that they could build). I`m working on a Star Trek scenario that`ll blow the pants off this one if I ever finish it.

However, the method of simulating wormholes was clever, if a little flawed (a huge barrier of mountains blocks the way to the Gamma Quadrant).

                      Right,
as I tried to explain before simplified combat is not on, it is just that most of the ships have hit points 4 and firepower 4 therefore when shipX with 4hp and 4fp attacks shipY with 4hp and 4fp the result is that the first one to win an attack round wins the battle, so its not simplfied combat its just very bad scenario design
btw the sounds are great, the mountain range in space less so

But wait, that doesn't happen at other times does it? I mean, if an artillery unit attacks another one, there doesn't seem to be simplified combat, or when a phalanx defends against a legion, these are 2/2 and 1/1 respectively, but they don't have simplified combat.
