  • Red Front v.1.4

Let all discussions about the great scenario take place here! Well, I just started playing it and haven't got the "too many units" error yet, so that's good right? How's everyone else doing?

Who's played until the Americans come in?
Who wants DVDs? Good prices! I swear!

I got the 'Too Many Units' thing in October 1941. How far have you played, Mao?

And yes, it looks great by what I've seen so far!
sigs are for fools who havent said enough!

I'm impressed by the incredible care for detail and the beautiful artwork. It really gives a great feeling to it- although there are some minimal things that Cpt. Nemo might want to fix- for example, what do I do with refugees since their settling capabilities are lost? Stalingrad has too many shields- I mean that there is a T 34 in production, but the shields that are producing it go out too far if you know what I mean... just check Stalingrad in turn 1.

Yet, there is the one big falw in playability. The massive number of units given to the Germans make the turns stretch and stretch, which makes it boring. But it still is fun. I am currently, I think, in August, and had a great resistance at Kiev. The Germans aren't doing all to well... Sieges drag and drag...

How long did Cpt. Nemo say, did it take him to do this true masterpiece?

Refugees regain their "settling" ability (and change graphic) in the winter of 1941... In the summer they are supposed to flee (High movement rate) the Germans, not settle in the western cities... The idea is to move them to the East so they are ready to settle/build industry by the winter.

The number of German units will decrease later in the game but the first 2-3 turns are the worst.

Stalingrad was one of the main "shield producing" cities in the Soviet Union in 1941. It was the "showcase" for the Communist system. If you want to avoid wasting shields switch to Katyusha rocket (More expensive) production when you develop "propellants". (That should happen within 2-3 months).

It took about 15 months to make this scenario and probably over 1000 hours...

I have yet to encounter the too-many units problem.

I have not yet made it to the Americans though. Stopped in summer of 1942.

I think the "too many units" problem is something to do with how many megabytes of memory you have. The more, the better.

              I think.

Well boys, I've yet to find 1.4 anywhere. Alex's War Gallery page gives me a "connection timed out" thing. And the Ziggurat hasn't got it yet. I picked up 1.3 yesterday, after I noticed I'd been playing 1.1 all this time. It's January'44 and the Germans are done. My Ural Mountain Industrialization Program was stunning. Kirov, for example has like 7 industry squares. Like 126 shields per turn. He he he.

I played RF 1.3 for 14 hours straight yesterday!!! From '41-'44. This is because I wanted to get it out of the way and move on to 1.4 But I can't find it yet. I missed the mass e-mailing by Nemo

Captain Nemo, 15 Months!!! Wow, seriously you desrve some cash for this. Sid should pay you for making his game 10 times better. I mean it. The thanks from us players just doesn't equate to all your effort. But again, thank you so very much, sir.

Stefan, use the refugees to build industry squares after '41. Personally, as soon as Labor Brigades become available- build them. They don't move as far, so build them close to the Urals, or airlift them to Sverdlovsk. The Labor Brigades are probably 2 times as fast at building industry. The problem with Labor brigades is that they require 2 food, and I found that many may get disbanded in the winter due to food shortage. The refugees/Laborer(after'41) don't require any support. And after a certain pop-up, your T34 upgrade Wonder will upgrade all Laborers to Labor Brigades and they'll pump out those industry squares like mad. Also, with regards to your defense of Kiev, I too enjoy protecting the capital of my ancestral roots
(Ukrainian), But I found out from Nemo that early in the game, the Germans will replace their lost units from seiges very quickly. IE: Defend more= brings more attackers in the long run. The Wheat Fields are quite important as the Ukraine is the "Breadbasket" of the Union. But defending it to the last man may cause the Germans to have more and more units. If you can hold it through the summer of '41, I say keep it going...rush build everything during the winter. At best you can add 6 good defending units(1 per turn)to Kiev in order to hold it. Plus, it's great to see that one pocket of resistence hundreds of miles behind the lines... If you can hold Kiev long enough, they'll just give up, and move on to the Crimea, and Stalingrad...

So if anybody knows where I can get my hands on 1.4 ASAP please let me know. I'm dyin' to put in another 14 hours straight!

I just started and am getting beat up. When do the tank guards come in? I want to know because I think there might be something wrong with the events. It's summer of '42 now, will I get them in Winter?

                    Mao,
just got 1.4!!!!Haven't started it yet. I'm all RF'd out from yesterday. My experience with other versions tells me that the Red Guard units should appear in the winter of '41. Perhaps Nemo changed this....not sure. I'll keep y'all updatesd with my progress.

Ha! I have lost a lot of the Ukraine, but the Germans are still desperately trying to capture Kiev (It's October '41)!!!
Damn, in the previous version(s), I nearly lost Moskva in November '41, now it's October '41 and they don't even have Smolensk!

I have noticed that a) the Germans are now focussing much more on the Ukraine and
                      b) the scenario is a lot easier. Doesen't make it bad, though.

I also like the idea of the Red army singin' the Soviet anthem while attacking. Speaking of that, does someone have that song as a sound file (.wav or MP3)???

Ok Boys, I got one for ya.
Check the Civilopedia for the Wonders. I had this problem with earlier versions, asked Nemo, and he said there was no problem for him. Alas, it still exists for me. Here goes:
The write up for the following wonders extends past the alotted space given. There is no way to enlarge the window to view more of the writing. This means that the last few lines are cut off, and it is in those lines where you find the actual function of the Wonder. I already have figured out what most of them do, with the exception of the new Wonder in 1.4, so it isn't that big of a deal. But some are kind of vague without the last few lines to explain... For instance, Civillian Donations...it makes your ecenomy better, but what does it do exactly?
                        These are the culprits:
                        -Civillian Donations
                        -Electrification
                        -German-Finnish Solidarity
                        -Kirov Tank Works
                        -Naval Convoy System
                        -NKVD Intelligence Agency
                        -Socialist Pragmatism
                        -Soviet Armament Industry *new*
                        -Synthetic Fuel Plant
                        -Tankograd
                        -Waffen SS

As I said, I know what most of these do. But Nemo has put alot of time into making this scenario historically accurate, and I'd like to be able to read the full write up. Anyone else have this problem?

See you next December in the Kremlin, Komrade, when the first snow falls... if you are still there...

Yeah, I have the same problem, so I went to the rules and saw which wonders corresponded with what original wonders (sorry Nemo if that's cheating) Civilian Donations is the Colossus I believe. I finally got my armored guardsmen in the winter of 42-42

Many think Red Front will do the following:

End all scenarios in production, seeing that Nemo has made the best one no one can match...

I will disagree with the comment above!
While testing my artwork skills, I must say, that even though my city graphic took 2-3 hours, and my unit 1-1 and a half hours...they look...magnificent, as Alex would put it. Lets hope I can do more...

No preview allowed yet! I hate to give too sudden of previews, ruining the scenario.

Say, when is Hispaniola going to be out?
