Okay, I'm finally all but certain that this frigging scenario will be finished. Had to scrap it and start over more times than I like to mention or even think about. Tech tree's complete, pedia's more or less complete, cities.gif complete, units.gif almost so...now comes the hard part: making the scenario file itself! Yay!
This is the final (hear that, perfectionist part of my brain? FINAL!) incarnation of the Capture-the-Flag scenario I mentioned months ago. It's set in a fantasy milieu of my own concoction, and while I only have FW I think it would have to be converted to Multiplayer. There are just too many changes to gameplay for me to trust that fool AI. For starters, Ocean is Open Plains, and "Land" represents patches of rougher terrain such as mountains and forests; most of the units are ships, like Knights, who naturally can't ride those armored horses up a steep slope or through dense woods.
Methods of transporting Noblemen-"land" units to capture enemy cities-are very limited. You start with only a solitary, if strong, "leader" unit to escort them, who thus must be protected at all costs. Each of the scenario's three civs has its own way of taking cities without relying on its leader, but those have to be researched.
The three factions of the civil war that forms the scenario's plot fight with the same units for the most part, but each has a very different government, two unique unit types and five wonders only it can build, assuming the other players don't cheat and steal the prereqs. Use of events.txt is actually relatively minimal, since I could achieve most of the desired effects by fiddling with the game mechanics.
Hope this sounds interesting so far. Now does anybody know where I can get three unit pics of fortified towers (by fortified I mean thick walls and arrow slits, not the brown chevron at the base)? I can't find suitable defensive structure pics. Please no cities.gif rips though.
