  • Scenarios under Linux

Hi there. I love Civ 2 scenarios, but I am now a Linux user (Mandrake 9).
Is there any way I can still enjoy Civ2 scenarios without booting Windows?
Wine/Winex cannot run Civ2. VMWare doesn't work w/ Mandrake 9. Win4Lin is expensive and I don't know whether it would do the job either. Bochs won't boot Win98 for me. I don't think Civ2 scenarios are compatible with Freeciv, either.

Is there any way I can play the Civ2 scenarios I love?

    Thank you,
    vaustein

    P.S. I cross-posted to the Civ2 - General Help forum. I hope that's all right.

Good to see a linux user. Windows is one of the most evil products ever to be produced by western capitalism.. OOPS... no further political comments here

          Wine/Winex cannot run Civ2.

Really? One would have thought that WinG is much easier to emulate (err, not-emulate) than DirectX.

Was it just CTP and AC, or was there a Linux version of ToT as well?

Excellent question. I looked into a Linux-native Civ: ToT before I posted this thread.

The only reference I could find to a ToT Linux port was this strange message originating from comp.os.linux.announce:

Last time when I tried (6 months ago), Civ2 ran on wine. But that's about it: it took ages to move a unit, so it was totally unplayable.

Well, I guess there is no hope until Infogrames(?) deigns to follow in the footsteps of iD and 3DRealms by opensourcing Civ2.

OR until Civ2 scenario support is added to Freeciv.
