  • Leader titles

Here's a problem that has bothered me for some time: how do you make different leader titles for different civs? (For example, giving the Italian leader the title "Il Duce" and the German leader "Fuehrer" under Fascism.) Editing the rules.txt doesn't help; using the in-game tribe editor changes the title for all civs.

I was under the impression that you could edit the rules.txt, are you sure that you did it correctly? (Mind, I haven't done this yet, so I'm not 100% sure).
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

      editing the rules.txt does work

in the civ leaders fields... behind the name and those numbers stuff, you know, some civs are already changed

      # of governemtn, male title, female title, #next, male title, female title, etc.

In fact it's not that easy if you try to change this in a scenario already started.´I also had this problem for some months, but then Gothmog told me how to proceed:

For some reason, you have to revert the order of each nations' adjective (i.e. English) and plural (i.e. Englishmen)name in the respective section of rules.txt (but not in your scenario!), if you want your custumized leader titles to be displayed right.
The process how to define the titles has already been describe well by the others.

I hope you got the point, for further reference see Gothmog's the tip as described on his well designed home page: http://users.stargate.net/~harden/leaders.html

Thanks, SCDARS, I had edited my rules.txt correctly, but after starting the scenario. So I'll try switching the plural and adjective and see what happens.

So does this mean that providing you haven't started the scenario, the changes made in rules.txt work? and only after saving the scenario as a scenario does further editing not work? or is it just saving as a save file?

The reversal trick worked. (How did anyone figure that out in the first place?) But here's a tip for anyone else considering it: make sure to edit your city.txt so that the adjectival form is used instead of the plural noun.
