  • Simple unit editing question

I have CivII Gold. I recently went into the editor that comes with it and changed a few units. Nothing major, just some colors. I kept everything within the bounderies.

The new units file was saved as units.bmp I want this file to be the units file not for a scenerio, but for the actual game.

So, I converted units.bmp to units.gif using a simple program. Then I pasted my new units.gif over the old one.

Now, when I try to start up CivII, I get some damn illigal operation error.

What's going on? How can I make MY units file be the one CivII uses?

    Thanks.

    One more thing...

The prgram I used to convert it to GIF says it's making it to a "GIF 89a Standard" file. That's all I can make it to. I have no idea what any of that means, but maybe that's the problem.

I don't think that is your problem. (89a format.) I think it has to do with pasting over. Did you copy the new units.gif over the old units.gif or did you open the old units.gif and paste your new units over it? If you opened it and pasted over it, that is your problem. It is probably out of alingment. Just put back the original to play the game without crashing and then copy your new file into your main Civ 2 directory. That should solve the problem.

You need to use GIF87a non-interlaced. Any other format will not work. Also make sure you use the right palette.
