Let's talk tech. How's your server's support for MySQL, PHP, Perl, JSP, ASP, Cold Fusion, SQL Server, et al?

          Sssh ... I'm hiding.

Personally I would love to see the Scenario League site revitalised in some fashion or another, however I believe that someone who is active in the game and the forums (and committed to the task at hand) should manage the site.

I do believe that the League is in desperate need of a new look, however the huge amount of time required to revamp the existing site to a modern and aesthetically pleasing layout is hard to justify. (If only we'd used cascading style sheets in the good ol' days!)

If it were up to me, I'd begin a new site with a modern appearance and a format that addresses the needs of today's scenario authors and players, yet still maintain an active link to the old Scenario League site (as there is still some good thoughts and tips). Unfortunately the old site did become a bit of a 'camel' over time in that different editors injected their own particular (peculiar?) design spins and file structures, where ultimately it did (arguably) appear to be a bit of a mess.

(I was never all that keen on that bolded verdana typeface either!)

I also would not try to duplicate what CivFanatics are doing on their site, and that some new dimension be added to the Scenario League's raison d'etre. For instance, the enormous success of PBEM and all it entails is something that is not addressed at all in the old Scenario League site.

Maybe the development of SDC#4 is a suitable catalyst to get the thing off the ground again?

One thing that I would like to stress is that I did develop a mini site that contains three good reviews, and if someone is in a position to amend the Scenario League to include these, it would be great.

My own involvement would be at best minimal, and in likelihood non-existent, and I would be delighted to hand the baton over to a willing and trustworthy leader such as Leons.

So you might be thinking ... well he's got a lot of opinions on how such-and-such should be done - and he doesn't even want to run the thing! The cheek of it! ... and you'd be right!

Well, in order to do something PBEM-related, I'd need access to the a database. Well, I could do it via text-files, but that would be far more demanding on the server's resources.

cam, leo: warvoid has access to the files. talk to him about updates

as for doing php/mysql stuff, i would prefer it if you developed what you have in mind somewhere(like your own pc, you can setup apache, php and mysql easily) and then we could put on the server.

I am, of course, still here.

I've been discussing the site's layout with St Leo via e-mail.

As with Cam and Leo, I agree that the site is in need of an entirely new layout and a considerable expansion. We now have Civ3, SDC #4 and PBEM to contend with, not to mention everything else scenario-related to add to the site (possibly a web version of our ever-popular graphics showcase).

The only thing currently stalling such an update is the FTP issue (which revolves solely on my end) and actually defining a set new layout for the new site (which will be devised by Leo and myself).

But do not fear, I will find a way to update the site if it means walking clear through to Greece.

Markos, I'd like to add Apolyton's ads to SLeague. I've taken a look at bannercode.shtml in SLeague's directory and it seems a few years out of date.

                        the file has been updated

Excellent; it no longer has unoverridable ideas about positioning.

                        But of course.
