  • Scenario Crashing

I am currently playtesting a scenario that I have created but it keeps crashing every time one of the civs attempts to build a new city. There are only 80 cities in the game and I have played games with up to two hundred cites without crashes. I went into the scenario editor and changed the
settler so that the unit could not settle and the game works fine after that but unfortunately settling is important to the scenario so it cannot be taken out. I am completely at a loss for why this is happening and would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Is there a limit to cities in scenarios? Is settling in a scenario bad juju? Thanks for any replies. Here is the actual error message:

    HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

Okay now I'm done being a jerk....

Whatever it is, there's something you did that messed one of the files up. Sometimes nothing is wrong, but there is a problem with the files anyway. What I suggest is looking at the last thing you changed before this started happening, then replacing it with a previous file, or the original file. It takes a lot of time to redo, but then you can think of more stuff to do, and then it usually turns out better than before.

I just have to laugh whenever the game hates someone...it hates me too...

Did you make sure there's no problem with CITY.TXT?

The first thing I would look at is to see if I had created enough city names. I use the tribe edior for that so I'm not sure where it is ...... Oh, wait here it is city.txt

Yes, check city.txt to see if you have enough names in it.

        Good luck!

No, the city.txt won't make any difference becuase when one tribe uses all it's names it starts using city names of other tribes. I once had similar problems but the problem was in the rules.txt. That file doesn't have anything to do with cities, but there still could be a problem in it. Just temporarely remove the rules.txt and try to load your scenario then.

I don't see how there could be any problems with cities.txt. If there's no civ name in it, then the City Name screen that comes up is just blank. I think it has something to do with rules.txt.

              Problem Solved!
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. It was the city.txt file. Like a complete idiot I erased the EXTRA cities that the computer uses as default when none of the normal names are left. When the civ built a city and couldn't find the EXTRA list it crashed. So simple that I feel like a complete idiot now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
