  • What happend to FMK's Stalingrad-Scn?

Just wanted to ask, if anyone knows, if FMK is still working on his Stalingrad Scn, or if he stopped.

      As Alex would say:

Stalingrad is still in a work.

I am actually back into it rather steadily again. I lost intrest after a civ overload. Again, I am continuing the blasted events file. 3rd one is close to finished and #4 will be right up next.

I am also making some rather major changes that will no doubt upset the playtesters. Other minor changes to unit stats etc come as problems appear.

I have been playing it too, and I must say, it is very good representation of the original idea I had when I decided to make it.

Here is the latest version of title.gif (modifyed to fit in Apolyton's 600 pixel width limit) just so you can get all excited:

Here is a question for you all...

Col. Gen. Hoth is represented in this scenario. He is sort of a hero unit (not a must have to win, but it'll help). He is a tank, leading the breakthrough to the encircled 6th Army. My question is what unit should represent him?

I am currently reading Panzer Leader by Heinz Guderian, and he basically rode around in an armoured car with his Pz Group. However, that doesnt make for a very strong lookign Hero unit now does it? Being that the scen takes place in late '42-43 are there any suggestions as to what he should be represented with? So far I have him in a PzKwIV auf H... with shurezen. There are other PzKwIv's in the scen, but they are auf F2's sans shurezen. So it seems kind of odd to have a Hero with strong attack rating in a PzKwIV that is basically better on defense (shurezen).

A PzKwV seems a bit odd as well as they weren't really in service then. PzKwVI's were, but I dont know how many were around on the ostfront... I think they were mostly in Africa 'round this time.

          Any suggestions?

          Thanks,

          -FMK.

Edit: the main germ tank in the scen is an auf G unit, but is named auf F2.

Tigers were introduced on the East Front in mid 42. I'm not sure how many there were at Stalingrad though...

Personally, I'd go with either a PZ IV with a flag flying from an aerial (sp?), a Nazi staff car, (see attached picture for some easy to convert units), or a severe looking Nazi General unit.

I gotta put my opinion in, he wouldn't be in a tank or staff car, he would be in a amoured recon car... i cant remember what they are called, Case you should know which ones, like off CC3 they controlled most battles, with there radio's on board.

But i cant for the love of me remember what its called!

                Thanks for these responses.

Case: The 501 Schwere Panzer Abteilung was in the East front at this time, but most of their Tigers were sent to afrika and then later to Italy... A tiger would seem kind of funny I think as well. I already have the General unit... Paulus. The staff car idea is good, but that again seems lkind of wimpy for a hero type unit.

Soundwave: Is this attatched picture what you are trying to think of? This is a SdKfz 247. Again it seems kind of wimpy.

I talked for a bit with Chris 62 and our best idea was a PzKwIII, with some extra antenae. Again though, kind of wimpy looking IMHO.

This is a dilema indeed. The unit will be one of the strongest on the board, but it's graphic representation will make it look like one of the weakest. Hmmm. Still not sure what to do...

Maybe Soundwave is talking about the 8-wheeled SdKfz 231? I don't have a picture, but it has the large antennae across its top and could drive in both directions with ease.

                    In the style of Nemo...

As a nod to the man who inspired this scenario, I decided to go with a unit simmilar to his Pz Grp 2 Guderian unit from RF. I took a PzKwIII with dual antenae, added some pennants to them, and put a 4 on the shield (which will be grey) which stands for his 4th Panzer Army. What do you guys think?

FMK: The abilities of the unit should be its big selling point.

I like what you've done, although the PzIV with side skirts with the same additions you've made to the PzIII, would be a killer unit

What could work is a general standing next to a PzKw 4 like a cavalryman.
                            I refute it thus!

How about a PIII combined with a General looking trough turret.
