  • Persia or Kushana?-Better said: Empire-Building or Conquest?

Right now I have done a third of the rules file for a scenario about medieval Persia. I really like it as it is layed out for much research, empire-building and such.
However, I have now made five scenarios with Persia as the centre theme, one in which it plays an active role, and two where they have the one or other influence.
So, I've come to thought about making a scenario about the Kushanas. The Kushanas, for those who don't know, were a central Asian people of not entirely known origin. The one part of the scientists believe them to be related to the Saka, while the other think they are of Chinese descendance. The Kushana topic would really interest me and be a great challenge. It would also have some personal satisfaction for me.
The topic is no doubt exciting. The problem however is, that my sources all date from the sixties and new discoveries have been made. I know this for sure, as a member of my family was once active as professor for Indology and has specialized himself on the Kushanas. Among other things I don't want to mention because they seem more like boasts, he corrected the chronology of Kushana kings.
The problem is that this won't be very exciting for those who want to do more than just conquering. I have the problem that I simply can't make up a good tech tree, not even for unit developements. All developemts came after the period that is interesting for the Civ2 player, the age of conquest.
The Persia scenario however would offer empire-building and conquests.
    Any ideas?

Make the best all round scenario. And then, for your next one, go as far away from Persia as you can! China...Australia...Paraguay...Alpha Centauri...anywhere!

Vidi , Vini, Vici or something like that.

Conquer them all and worry about the consequences later.

Next you should go to the Americas, there should be a lot of room for your imagination to run wild.

Empire-building all the way. As others have already said, don't worry if that makes you introduce some 'ahistorical' elements, such as expansion to territores where no one has gone before and so...

Well, I've had this one other idea -speaking of "where no man has gon before- about the exploration of the South Seas (James Cook and the likes). This could be mathced up with an empire-building game for the island peoples. That would force in a lot of fiction, but it's something new for a change, and finally something in which there's a lot of naval operations...

It depends... for sure a lot of my scens are more about conquest, but they need to develope a great empire-building ability to be performed. i think a good scen needs both of these factors.

            PS a Cook scen? Nice!!!

PPS Kushana lived in Sogdiana, right?
