        Imperials, June 1618:

Ferdinand II was crowned as the Emperor of Holy Roman Empire in Wien. In his speech he promised to dedicate his reign to unification of Germany and reestablishing catholic faith all over Europe with help of our allies Spanish and Polish-Lithuanian kingdoms.

          Royal Announcement from Kopenhavn:

A courier has been sent to Paris this night and delivered the file in nightly storms.

We, the King of Denmark, are proud to announce that the cities of Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck have been added to our posessions. We wish our fellow participators best of luck.

Yeah, France has recieved the file.

However, it's a HOT file. Is it not better to start over and start as a NET file (Internet game)? That works easier and better, and you don't get to see other players' turns.

Jay I the Bee, supreme ruler of Protestantland and soon of Western Europe (everything for me, everything) fully concurs with King Allardé of the soon-to-be French-conquered lands.

It would be MUUUUUUCH better to start over. My humble opinion.

The soon-to-be-conquered French do not like the Protestants. Actually, I think it's about time to withdraw the Édit de Nantes. So then we can finally once again persecute all those annoying Huguenots.

It's much more user-friendly. Also much more security-friendly.
I don't think Hotseat is really built for PBEM. I think Internet play is better for it.

HOT files vs. NET files! Wooowoo! This is almost as much fun as Protestant vs. Catholic! You guys definitely have the spirit......

From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise

I play WW2 and WW1 PBEM games with .net files and was also a bit surprised to get 30YW as .hot file. But there doesn't seem to be any great difference between these two formats.

I have other matter also to discuss.

Do we allow city and unit bribing?

I don't like it because it changes the whole atmosphere of the scenario. In order to conquer heavily fortified city you need only to build an ambassador and bribe it cheaply. No need of big armies at all.

Jeeze you guys! This game is like counting ballots in Florida. Once we have all played a turn and entered a password, no one will see anything of another players turn. So what is to be gained by starting over?

I don't support Marko's rule change. It's too late. Different diplomatic units are available to different civs, some can bribe cities and some can't. So such a rule could upset play balance. Besides, the cost of diplomatic units is so high, and the financial health of most civs so shakey, that it's not a viable strategy for rapid conquest.

If, however, some of you Al Gores' out there insist on a restart, I will make a case for my "made for multiplayer" version.

I don't think a recount will be necessary.

The point is, a HOT file is exactly the same as a NET file. Just renaming the one to the other will do the trick. So anybody can use the way they like it best. Anybody can rename it to either .HOT or .NET according to their preference. It makes absolutely no difference, as far as I can foresee.

Anyway, the French have gloriously captured the city of Montpellier. No serious resistance was offered to our mighty guns.
French economy has undergone a drastic change, and though yet unachieved, a surplus may very well be possible within a few years.
To obtain this surplus, all plans for our new little residence in Versailles have been cancelled. Maybe something nice for our successor.
