  • ToT and Age of Discovery scenarios

    Hi all!

It seems to me that the most scenarios taking advantage off the 4-map feature of ToT are fictional rather than historical scenarios.

As a matter of a fact, I don't have a copy of ToT (tough I'm beginning to consider buying it) but I've wondered several times that the 4-map feature would be perfect for an Age of Discovery type scn, where you would deal with, say, 4 linked maps (Western Europe, the American colonies, Southern Africa and the Far East).

The limitation of 8 civs would still be a hard challenge in order to get a realistic scenario, but you get the idea. In fact, I haven't thought deeply about the scn myself, some people will probably know that I don't even have time to finish my current projects...

I know Alex Mor has released a colonization type scenario, "Hispaniola", but I haven't obviously tested it and I don't know wether this feature is implemented in it.

So what are your thoughts on this?

Be careful! Remember that the maps have to be the same size, and that when you jump from map to map you will be in the same square on the new map. Meaning that the western edge of each map corresponds with the western edge of the next. One way around this is by making maps with strange orientations.

So the entry square to the new level cannot be edited? Then I guess ToT isn't the perfect platform for Age of Dicovery scenarios...

No but it isn't very hard to get around with smart design.

You could use airlifting from cities, for one...

Also, you might look at Andz's thread, something like "anyone interested in a scenario co-project" in creation apolyton forum...it's not ToT, but there are a lot of ideas you might consider there...

If your open to advice/suggestions, I'd love to talk about this, maybe here or via email:

PS. On solution would be to have the four maps in a 2x2 square, with a ring of four cities in the center/interior corners, touching, if you will...build airport in each...or maybe border cities...
