After starting the game as Persians and seeing a gazillion trade units just standing around I said "No way I am figuring out where to send all of them!" and switched to Athnians. Comments:

-Am I supposed to just sell the Taxes? I am not sure of whether I am going to have a nuclear attack and they are swallowing up a lot of my treasury.
-There is a Neutral Fortress between Athenae and Delphi. I thought it was mine and accidentally lost a Sheperd. Is it supposed to be that way?
-Could you please change the colour of Lydians and Persians. They are invisible on the game map. If you aren't sure of how to do that without getting new flags, I can give detailed instructions.
    -"Persisan" used as adjective, ahem
    :-)

They're supposed to be tributes. Send them to Persepolis if you want to be historically accurate

"Am I supposed to just sell the Taxes? I am not sure of whether I am
going to have a nuclear attack and they are swallowing up a lot of my
      treasury."

Yes, in the bad times. They where designed as sort of a "treasury reserve".

"There is a Neutral Fortress between Athenae and Delphi. I thought it
was mine and accidentally lost a Sheperd. Is it supposed to be that
      way?"

That fortress is supposed to represent Boeoetia. This was an enemy of Athens, and is supposed to block them, as it did in history.

"Could you please change the colour of Lydians and Persians. They are
invisible on the game map. If you aren't sure of how to do that without
getting new flags, I can give detailed instructions."

Huh? Lydians? What exactly do you mean? Independents? Vassals?
OK, I'll change flag colors of the Persians.

      "Persisan" used as adjective, ahem"

      DOH! Now THAT'S embarassing!

My curiousity is aroused. Can someone please explain to me who/what the Ionians and Lydians are? I have no idea, but I am interested because I play guitar and there are important scales called the Ionian and Lydian modes. Just wondering if there is any relation. Is there also a tribe of Dorians and Mixolydians?

The Ionians where a Greek tribe, who at first inhabited most of Greece, but during the classical Age(ca. 550-330 BC) where known as the Greeks livinig on the coast of Asia Minor. They where merchants and explorers. The Ionians where a community of 12 cities, most importantly Miletos.
The Lydians where a tribe living in Asia Minor. They where at first known as the Phrygians.

The Dorians where also a Greek tribe. They founded Sparta. They lived in the south. I don't know about the Mixolydians.

It doesen't surprise me that there are scales named after them since all these where quite advanced in the musics.
