  • Prerequisites for interception

    What are they?

Does the unit have to be in the fighter slot, the fighter flag, what? In Red front i think the Stuka gfx is shown at the intercept pop up.

I want to try having ships intercepting "airlfits".

I remember another dude was experimenting with subs to intercept convoys in WW2. Henrik it was?

Could he shed some light here?

    Thanks in advance.

I played around with intercepting U-Boats a little with El Aurens, but dropped it. My memory's a bit dim. Didn't play with the slot much, but IIRC the domain had to be air. Had about a 25% chance of interception, if the interceptor was within range of the source or destination. Can't remember about the range - might only work with range=1.

Case may have observed something about range with Battle of Australia.

      Hmmmmmm. . . .

IIRC, in AGE of WAR, the anti-aircraft artillery performed the interception mission . . . to my initial surprise. It was not an air unit. BUT it did have the "doubled against air" checked. It seems that I had to rewrite the popup message due to that little quirk.

      You can try it out.

Boco mumbles that he should never post on dim memory.

          LOL!

Hey Boco, it's ok; it was a long time ago that I was developing AoW. My memory might be a bit dim too. That's why I "recomended" that someone try it out and find out for certain.

            OK GOT IT!!!

The trick is with the role. It has to have air superiority. It could be a ship, a ground unit anything.

The unit that appears in the pop up is ALWAYS the gfx in the fighter slot.

Then it is the range. As long as any of the cities(receiver and sender) is within the unit's movement rate there is a chance of interception. For a ground unit with a movement of 10 f.e all airlifts from and to cities within 10 squares are subject to interception, doesn't matter if the unit can't actually reach them(cause of water for instance).

Now this discovery combined with the hex editing one to keep units immobile could be used to create a naval blockade or something, like the german subs in WW1&2.
(Otherwise the AI would try to move the interceptor units towards planes-remember role is air superiority).

So Exile the AA artillery didn't actually perform the interception mission, you just used the fighter slot for it and it appeared in the pop up.

                Doh!

Yep, that's right. It "scrambled" rather than "intercepted."

                My bad.
